Pop the car trunk lever

Two questions. #1 What are those important things in your trunk?
#2 Why are you storing important things in the trunk of your car?

Long ago, I was instructed, and I'd heard from many people, that it was smarter and more prudent , when leaving your vehicle,
to put all items, you couldn't take with you or carry,
and especially any with any value,
in the trunk, rather than on the seat where it could be seen, or anyplace in the passenger section, where it would more likely be stolen.

After a while, I realized it didn't make as much sense as I had assumed. Nothing of value beongs in a car. Leave those items home. (Or park in front of a big window)

I wonder what approximate year, those levers became common, standard, or required, to be in cars. Does anyone know?

Now let's tackle the hood latch and opening that one. After years of fooling around with it, one day I examined the mechanism and there is an adjustment there to close the hood without having to slam it so that it wakes the whole neighborhood. I just had to move it down a fraction and it now works perfectly

The latch on the inside of my trunk lid that is supposed to allow me to open the trunk from the inside if (heaven forbid) I'm locked in there is made of some sort of glow-in-the dark material, that glows when charged by the sun. However......the trunk lid is closed probably 99% of the time, so I doubt seriously it would ever be "charged" enough to glow if (heaven again forbid) I'd ever need it.

Somebody's concept of a good idea; I guess if it worked in .01% of the cases, it would be worth it.

Hmmn. You get a flat and you can get a portable air pump that you can keep in the trunk or a battery jumper. Leave them at home?

First car I saw levers in was 1998.

A handle to open the trunk from inside the trunk is a legal requirement. I don't remember when it was instituted.

I once had the trunk burglarized on my car, they took a very shabby tool box, but left the electric drill and the shotgun that were lying next to it. Strange.

I wasn't referring to items needed in a vehicle, for various types of travel emergencies..

I meant things like a purse, camera, jewelry purchases, designer clothing or electronics or tv's that you buy for gift-giving, etc…..

I can understand Camper6's putting emergency road equipment in the trunk, but why store valuables in your trunk? I never thought of my trunk as some kind of security zone. And I certainly wouldn't keep valuable items in my trunk, if I were taking my car to an auto repair shop, which has all the tools needed to get into my trunk.
