.....Is important to us!

We've all heard this message several times when calling
a business, today I listened to it for 15 minutes when I
called my Doctor's Surgery and it got me thinking.

The call is not really important to them, it is to me as I am
the one who is nor well/needing to speak with a Doctor.

Maybe the message should read, "Please hold as long as
you can as this call is important to you and we will answer
soon".

Do you have a better suggestion?

Mike.

Right on, Mike ,but you for got one part of their message. "Please hold, we are experiencing much higher call rate than normal". I have never called that number when they weren't flooded with 'unexpected' calls.

Yup. And when that happens I always yell into the phone "THEN HIRE MORE OPERATORS!"

I really don't get business conduct in the past 15 years or so.

- They go out of their way to insulate themselves from people who want to give them money (customers). Sounds like a really dumb idea.

- When a "normal" business has increased sales, they would increase production of the product, along with supporting positions like sales, shipping, clerical, PHONE OPERATORS, etc. But not today with phone operators; the opposite seems to happen. However, there are a few companies who are listening.

After much frustration, I recently dumped my Visa card for the above reasons and went with Discover who is ranked #1 for customer service. And I dumped Tracfone and went with Consumer Cellular also for the same reasons. This was all done in the past few months after much frustration with both companies.

Money is #1 customers #2 and it will only get worse. Don't forget the years we were transferred to someone somewhere in a country far, far away where English was not understandable because it was the least costly way for the companies to operate.

My favorite is when you pick up & say "Hello," & a recording says, "Please stay on the line; someone will be with you shortly."
I usually stay on the line & when someone comes on the line & says, "I'm from _____ & ______(whatever they're selling), I say, "Hold on; let me get the owner of the house; he's very interested."
Every couple of minutes, I'll pick up & ask, "Did he pick up, yet?"
Then, after 15 minutes, I pick up & say, "I'm really the owner of the house & I just wanted to show you how rude it is to call someone & when they answer, you tell them to hold on until they feel like talking to you."

I get a kick out of the hold message at my PCP's office.

If this is an emergency please hang up and dial 911.

It doesn't give me much confidence in their ability.
