Golden Gate Bridge Suicide net....

This is going to sound cold blooded, but I think if someone wants to off themselves they are going to find a way to do it. I think it's a waste of money. They still sell aspirin & I'm sure you could swallow enough to kill yourself. I'm wondering & I would imagine more suicides are caused with pills or guns. I haven't checked stats on it though. When I was a kid the man down the road put a screwdriver through his nose & up into his skull to kill himself. This type of thing makes me say that if they really want to do it they will find a way anyway.

They should order a net just large enough for the person who thought up the idea.

Better ways to spend the money. If a person is bent on suicide why deter them and make them wait to
find another way. There are many different reasons for suicide.....escaping some kind of problem, physical,
mental or whatever. One can't understand a person's problem until you've walked a mile in their shoes.

A person can do a lot of dumb things in this world and live to regret it....suicide is not one of them!

It's not cold blooded-it's common sense. This is exactly how I feel. If someone wants to die then they will find a way. As long as they don't take out someone else during their jump fine if the want to die. I look at it this way. This is one less suicide by cop where someone commits a heinous act for motivation to kill themselves or a junky spending a life time on drugs committing crimes supporting their habit making the world pay by robbing, assaulting or killing them.

Besides money it's something that will have to be maintained and another liability for the taxpayers because I guarantee you if a person does hurt themselves during an attempted suicide they will sue. An historic landmark will be more of an eyesore as well.

What a waste.

What I'm wondering is, what is to stop them from jumping from the bridge into the net, then climbing out of the net & jumping into the water anyway?

Is there going to be a net below the net? Then another net below that one, etc., etc., etc.?

More feel-good silliness to pacify the squeaky wheels.

Wonder how long before the first person manages to defeat it by either climbing up the net or cutting through it with a pair of bolt cutters.

Oh well. Hope for the best.
