Texas husband, 106, and wife, 105, are officially named as the oldest living couple in the world as they prepare to celebrate their 80th wedding anniversary

A Texas wife and husband with a combined age of 211 have been named the oldest couple in the world by the Guinness Book of Records.
The announcement comes just one month before John Henderson, 106, and Charlotte, 105, of Travis County, are due to celebrate their 80th wedding anniversary on December 15.
When the couple tied the knot, it was during the Great Depression in 1939.

My goodness they're looking great for well over 100 years old...

They started dating the same year my Mother was born...wow!!!

John Henderson is 106 years old and his wife, Charlotte, is 105, which is a combined age of 211 years. John said one of the secrets to their long and happy marriage is being kind to one another.

“Live life in moderation and be cordial to your spouse,” he stated.

The couple met while taking classes at the University of Texas (UT) in 1934, when she was studying to become a teacher and he was playing football for the Longhorn team.

John is also the oldest living former UT football player and has attended games with his wife at least once every season for the past 84 years.

The Hendersons were married during the Great Depression on December 15, 1939, and said the hotel room they rented for their honeymoon only cost them $7 at the time. Next month will mark their 80th wedding anniversary.

Both John and Charlotte are in excellent health and spend their days together at Longhorn Village, a senior living community for former UT staff and alumni.

I think the people who make it to 100 generally look about 80. Maybe their innards are younger looking too.
I'm always fascinated to find out about their lifestyles, especially their diets. But, I found out that they're as different as the rest of us young'uns.

JOKE: A reporter went to interview a man who made it to his 85th birthday and asked him about his lifestyle. The man said he ate healthy, didn't smoke, didn't drink, and gave up women a long time ago. They heard a crash from upstairs and the reporter, alarmed, asked what was that. The guy said, "Oh, that's my father, he got drunk again and fell off his bed".

I kind of don't like these "oldest" type contests. Let's face it, how long are the two going to hold on to the title? It may be nice to live to be 100+, but if you're the "world's oldest"-your days are numbered. There will always be some young 112 year old, gunning for the tittle.
