Who accepts aging better, Men or Women ?

Either way I find it sad when I see people pushing old age and apply toupees or wigs or excessive makeup to try to look what? Younger? I don't see it very often but when I do I just shake my head. Give me nature every time.

Men will not accept that they are getting older-and by getting older I mean their physical strength is declining. The reason I know this, is that I'm a guy. Sassycakes, I don't think you have any idea what it means to a man to be able to do things. It means independence. It means you still have the ability to care for yourself. You can make your way in the world. You can stand on your own two feet-you matter. You, as a woman. were never supposed to grow up to be a strong man. I was. Men are supposed to go out and do work. When you don't have that, what is your purpose in life?

I learned a lot from reading this post, so I thank you for that input and for this reminder of that perspective.

I will add to it, that some of us women, were left to fend for ourselves, and valued above all else, being physically strong enough to do everything needed, for ourselves and in order to care for others, as well as our self-value on our independence and what we were able to accomplish. To some of us females, it is just as much a crushing blow, then, to become disabled and aging.

I just worry about his health. He has health issues and I want him around for a long long time. In my eyes I still see the young man I married and I don't want to live without him.

I was going to say today, that I totally understand what you are saying.
My above post written yesterday, about women prioritizing more than men,
was mostly meant to be humorous,

but very seriously, some people do not realize when they are endangering themselves and others, by refusing to accept or to notice, that they could, and would, be safer and likely to live longer and more comfortably, more able to do things and more able to help their loved ones too,
IF they would adjust how they do things, often in simple ways.
It is difficult to watch, if we love the person, and want to prevent, IF POSSIBE, them from possible avoidable injuries, that cause extra suffering. (To both them, and to others, and to us)

Sometimes it is worth trying to explain to them that they are very loved and valuable to us, even when they do less, or that they actually are not safe to do something the same way they did it 20 yrs ago,
but sometimes, the explaining doesn't work, they just do not see it, so we can't change that.

Yes, at age 71, I still want to look as attractive as I can. I do use minimal makeup, but truthfully I think I don't look much different (attractive) with or without makeup. It's not that I don't look my age, whatever that means, but I'm happy with how I do look and I also get compliments from other people that someone can look attractive even when older. I'm not going to apologize for that.

And don't tell me that men in general don't feel the same about wanting to be attractive to others, too, no matter their age. They do!

I accept the fact that I am getting old, my husband doesn't believe he is getting old. He thinks he can still do what he did years ago. There is no stopping him no matter how much I try. He has medical problems but still does everything he wants to do. It really upsets me especially when I see him limping around and still doing what he wants.

We moved about a year ago and we live in the suburbs. We had lived in the city all our lives. When we first moved in we had a lawn service. After a few months he let them go because he said he could handle it, but honestly it's too much for him to do. The other day he even helped the neighbor next door take care of building a shed. I could name 100 other things he shouldn't be doing but still does. He does not want to face the fact that he is getting too old to do some things. I know my limits and accept them. Why can't he. Is it just a Man thing ?
Yes. It is a man thing. Men go to war. Women don't.

Must be growing up without a father that turned me into a slacker. :) I never valued myself by how much I could do physically. I looked forward to retirement and was quite happy when the day finally arrived when I could kick back and read a book without feeling guilty. But I have seen too many marriages suffer when the husband retired and didn't know what to do with himself to deny that for most men to be able to keep "doing" is very important for their self-esteem.
On the other hand, if you give up everything just because you are old you might as well be dead. The ones that keep going I admire.
My friend. Heart bypass, diabetic, operation for cancer, shingles, and still goes golfing and now he is looking after his wife who has mental problems.

I know I'm getting older, but I'm going to do all I can to look and feel my best through whatever is available to me. Makeup and fashion are fine w/me. I know my physical limitations and work slowly to improve myself without injury or embarrassment to me. If some others feel they want to look natural - fine. But aging isn't kind, and I intend to fight it every step of the way.

Me too 👍

I have yet to see a female soldier coming back in a body bag from combat.
Sorry Camper, there have been many women killed in action,
especially in Afghanistan, I know that I heard about British
women on the news, not many lately though, thank God, but
in the past they have died in Iraq also.

I asked Google about British Women killed in action and found
the report in the link below which is from the Pentagon about
USA fatalities among women soldiers.

You are correct. In reading the link. 6676 males died and 160 females. You can appreciate it didn't make mainstream news.

In my opinion, every death lost in a war, should be mainstream news. Maybe that way we'd not feel so complacent about it and think that's just the way it is.

I think that the difference between reporting these death in
the UK and not in the USA is that the UK is smaller than Texas,
so going by the size of America they don't want to stirr up any
bad behavior, as such reports surely would.

Different attitudes of the different Governments.

I did the "keep going" for 54 years, since my wife was chronically ill from the moment I met her until she passed away. Between various surgeries, 2 kidney transplants, 4 years of dialysis, gall bladder, phlebitis, and other surgeries and ailments and hospital stays, plus umpteen doctors' visits, we did live a full life, trust me. There was never a moment when I looked upon it as a burden! I still wear my wedding ring after 4 years. And now, even though I miss my wife, I am in a quiet place where I can vicariously enjoy the adventures and HEAs of my books!

Good for you and God bless you.

My daughter was a signal officer in Afghanistan, both she and her company were subjected to nightly rocket attacks in her military compound. Both women and men soldiers were injured or killed during the time she was deployed and by the grace of God she did not come home in a body bag but she very well could have, my son is also a combat veteran who lost his entire squad in an IED attack and went back on a second tour after that nightmare, every military member is making a sacrifice to their country through multiple deployments and I am one proud mama of my brave family.
