White Powdery Substance On Dry Red Kidney Beans

Damaged Goods

It's grayish white with a texture like talcum powder. Wipes off easily with rubbing with fingers and no visual damage to the bean itself.

Momma didn't raise me to throw food away but I dumped the bag.

Any ideas?

Maybe mold. A little moisture might have gotten in the package to cause it. It's better to be safe than sorry. Even if it was safe the finished recipe could have an off taste.

You're probably right on the money. Inspection of the other bags looks OK.

Thanks Jersey Ruth
