Multivitamins: A True Story.....

Hari Om, y'all!

About three years ago, the thought struck me, as I took my assortment of vitamins and supplements, one morning, that I could avoid the hassle of opening all of the bottles, everyday, by going back to a multivitamin I had taken, years ago.

Over the years, my body had "told me" what vitamins and supplements I needed to take. That brought me to the assortment I was taking, up to that morning. I did very well with that mix of vitamins, but the multi beckoned.

OK, so I went out and bought the old tried and true. The formulation hadn't changed. As I was to soon find out, I had!

Approximately three hours after I took the multi, I was doing some paperwork, at my standing desk. Suddenly, out of nowhere, I was struck by a blindingly painful sensation, mid-chest. It felt like a sharp, burning arrow had been launched into my chest, no lie! Instantly, I yelled out: "F#$%ing multi!"

I knew that the pain I experienced, that morning, had to be caused by the multi, with zero doubt. If I had a weak heart, that experience would have killed me, also no doubt.

I went back to my past, and present, regimen, and never again went through that horrible experience.

My point here is, yet again, listen to your body! Over the years, my body had called for all of the vitamins and supplements I now take, and had pulled me away from a "one size fits all" multi. I disrespected my body, when I grabbed a multi for the sake of convenience, and I paid the price. Obviously, that price could have been the last I paid, in this lifetime.

Rest assured, that will never happen again!

Think a lot of folks have issues assimilating most of those multi synthetic vitamins popular today, also:

I've had a routine of taking vitamins, after breakfast, for years. I take a men's "over 50" pill, a 6mg. Lutein, and a fish oil capsule every morning. The vitamin pill supplies the daily minimums, and the Lutein/Fish oil is per recommendation of my eye doctor. It must be working, as I stay fairly healthy, and my eyes haven't shown any problems. The doctor visits are just for the annual checkups, and the last prescription drug I got was for some pain pills after having a root canal, a couple of years ago. I order my "drugs" from Swanson Vitamins, online.

People can be sensitive, even have an allergic reaction to anything . Many people seem to think that if things are all natural , that they have no worries but that’s far from the truth.

With that being said, most vitamins made from all natural products are generally preferred over synthetic and it’s often the fillers that trip people up while taking vitamins.

Here’s an article on some fillers being used that are far from healthy.

Another thing is that there are chemical reactions taking place all the time in your body from natural products. Natural products create chemical interactions as well as synthetic ones.

Treeguy, I'm with you about taking a multi vitamin. I'm 74 and take no medication. I'm sure the time will come when I'll need some type of medication and then I'll explore what is available and make a decision on what to do. My question is,since some of those natural products you mentioned are not regulated by the FDA how do you know how pure they are? To tell you the truth I don't trust the FDA either but I'm just wondering.

I just take what I take, and hope for the best, since I've done what research I could, to the best of my ability. At 67, I've lived long enough to be happy with how long I've lasted on this planet. I have zero desire to bear witness to my own incipient decrepitude, so I will keep doing what I can to stay healthy, and if/when my best efforts fail, I'll then do what I feel is the right thing.
