I just heard today he had be released from the hospital..did not realize he had gone in. He is looking pretty frail. Any UK friends have more info on how he is doing?

Not really. We watched him leave hospital today on the news, and then his private helicopter flew over our house from the London hospital to his home at Sandringham.. He does look very poorly I'm sad to say this maybe his last Christmas, but I would imagine whatever was wrong ( and the media and or the Palace are not releasing the info aside from to say it's a long standing complaint ).. he must have been well enough to leave hospital.
Anyway I'm delighted he's managed to get home. I feared that at 98 he might not. This has been another Annus horribilis for the Queen this year so the last thing in the world she needs now is to lose her precious husband.

Slightly OT, but not long ago, I watched a video on You Tube about all the proticols that will be set into place once the Queen passes. I found it quite interesting and informative.

He does look very frail in pics today, especially compared to earlier in the year. 
And it's a big deal when someone who can afford the best of in-home care has to have four days in acute care.

It's a recurring problem.
I suspect, given his age and sex, and reading between the lines with some personal experience, that it's the old men's bugbear, prostate problems.

I didn't know the D of E was hospitalised again. He and the Queen have been amazing in their long marriage and partnership and I think he has been a very good role model as the Prince Consort to his Wife. I do hope he recovers but he is now frail unlike Her Majesty who is strong in body and spirit

Let's not get carried away.
While he had ideas way above his station when he started, he was quickly made to see his role as a stud male, and a support only.
As for being a role model, I would hate to think of his progeny being as red-necked and racist as he is.
While he has been a Good support, he has been kept on a tight rein.

People are always amazed and congratulatory about long marriages. I've heard that Philip married Elizabeth with illusions of becoming a king and was put in place. I've also read that he cheated on her, but she would have never divorced him, for ANY reasons, because she's loyal to the throne and her conservative ideals. So, let's say they have had a long marriage in spite of Philip. Lots of couples stay married for whatever reasons while they are miserable in private, I've known a few of those couples.

Anti-Royalist? I spent 40 years, half of my life, in loyal service to the British Crown.
I swore an oath of allegiance to HM, personally, in 1953 and while I am no longer subject to military discipline, that oath has never been rescinded, and she still pays me $2,000 a month!
I like to think that despite my personal grievances, I would still give my life if I had to.
Old fashioned, maybe, but I'm an old fashioned sort of guy!

What?
While HM lost my confidence when she humiliated her son before the world, and while said son has usurped the throne of my native land, I regard his elder son as the epitome of what a Crown Prince should be, and his wife (William's wife, Catherine) well on the way to being as well loved as the Queen Mother.
Margaret was a model of duty and it blighted her life and Anne is the sort anyone would be proud to acknowledge as daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, role mode, Princess and, dare I say it, mistress!
Just because I've got no time for some of them doesn't mean I despise them all.
Just like my own family, they can be exasperating, but they are mine to keep and I wouldn't change them (Well except, perhaps, for Llewellyn!).
