2020 Bucket List

Visit family more. Lose 5lbs by the summer. Ride my bicycle by the summer (it's been stored in the shed for a few years). Visit Florida in Feb/Mar (Blue Jays for hubby and I will shop). Visit Maine or New York in the summer. Some landscaping and/or plan to renovate kitchen. Cottage in summer (maybe Blue Mountain). Just a few things.

My list, besides having a healthy year, is to update my car. My lease is up in September and need to start shopping. Anyone on the forum have a Kia Soul? Just the wife and I now and we are not driving to NY and back anymore. I drive about 8000 miles a year, at most.

The main thing on my Bucket list is to say no ! I am being used too much and never appreciated for what I do. I hope and pray I will be able to say no !
A very wise person once told me that one of the keys to happiness is learning to say yes without resentment and no without regret.

A few decades ago I volunteered for a charity twice a week, but found myself still doing so after ten years, long after the joy had evaporated for me. Resentment was definitely creeping in. When they received my two weeks notice, of course the charity tried to persuade me to stay on. It's hard to recruit and train reliable volunteers, but I held firm, explaining that I'd never intended to remain that long and that the time commitment was preventing me from exploring other options in my life.

The guilt made It very hard to separate from them, but once the deed was done I not only felt free, I resolved to never put myself into that situation again. From then on my volunteering has been limited to particular events and periods of time with clear task responsibilities and specified end dates.

Number1 wish is to visit the pyramids in Egypt. Don't think that's going to happen. I'm a Civil War nut, so maybe one last visit to Gettysburg is in the cards.
Maybe you could visit the Meade Pyramid ? (LINK)

I want to go to England and visit some small villages, and I want to take a river cruise in France. And see Palo Duro Canyon in the spring. And South Padre Island. I think those are doable.
We spent 2 winters at Long Island Village in Port Isabel; just 2.7 miles across the bridge to South Padre. We used to go there often for drink specials, $1 jugs of beer, food & walks along the beach. Of course, that is during the winter Texas season. When the college kids come, the winter Texans flee like the plague, the prices go up & it just ain't the same.

No bucket list, no resolutions. Been there. That stuff is meaningless to me anymore. Now just wanting to enjoy the cards in my hand as long as possible. Enjoy my grandkids each and every day, read the Word everyday, be on the tennis courts everyday, enjoy great wines, enjoy lunches with my buddies, enjoy my mom while she’s still here on this earth, enjoy my wife and family, enjoy our get away in Florida, just enjoy each day for what it brings.

There is wisdom in your words.

You're blessed to be able to see your grandchildren so often.

What type of wine to you like? I prefer cabernet sauvignon.

Yes! The king of grapes. Also Pinot. A buddy lives in Napa. He says, any California red is great. It’s all the same sun, soil, and similar production. Try gnarly head wines, or Mondavi Select wines. Budget wines, same taste and quality.

In late 2011 a builder built a spec home in the last lot in our neighborhood behind us. Gorgeous home. It sat, numerous offers, all fell through. Then our daughter got married in the fall of 2012. I called and made a lowball offer. They said yes! It was a miracle. Daughter and new husband bought it. It’s already worth $150K more than they paid! Since then we have two silly grandkids. I can’t get enough of them.

I am in heaven. Could care less about traveling or other so called retiree stuff. Traveled enough in my job for the past 40 years. Love just hanging around the house, our little cute town. Lots of restaurants, nice community.

I've scratched many things off my bucket list over the years. I'm very content.
I let my family add to my bucket list. Sometimes it is full of surprises.

Over the Christmas holidays my daughter and son in law said they rented a house on Lake Champlain this summer and invited the hubby and I to spend a week with them. Can't get any better than that plus the fact that they really want us to be with them makes it special.

On a serious note I have to take more of an interest in our finances so I really know what is going on. My hubby has always done this and he has been really good at it.
I've never had to worry but he is 7 years older than me and as much as I hate dealing with it I know it is important for me to know what is going on.

All couples should take turns, I think. Most women leave the finances and house maintenance chores to the husband and the husband leaves the cooking and household chores to the wife. Then, when something happens to one of them, the other one feels helpless.

I put together a binder for my wife on all our financial positions. Should make everything very simple for her.
Great idea, but I think you should have a few trial runs with her, explain everything to her. What you feel makes sense to you since you have always done it, may read like Chinese to her while reading your instructions. Let her read the binder and explain to you the contents and you'll know what I'm talking about. She may be a genius, but if she's never taken care of financial matters, it all will be incomprehensible to her.

I have along with my kids.

My bucket list for 2020 is three words = Organize, organize, organize.

I'm tired of not being able to find what I'm looking for, that is anathema for a true Virgo like me!
I hear you @Catlady ...I have started organizing my things and throwing out what I know I'll never use. I have usually been an organized person and fell out of it for awhile but now am back into it.

I've gone through my 2 dressers, my computer desk, my little 4 drawer mini dresser; going to tackle my book shelves and closets although I've gone through the 5 of them pretty well. Just am going to start getting rid of clothes I'll never wear. Also must clean out my kitchen cupboards and throw stuff out I don't use along with clean them with Murphy's.

Good luck with that organizing! 🔥 🧺🧹🧸🎀

Best of luck to the both of us, may we both end 2020 so organized we'll find stuff with our eyes closed. 😻

And just now I've thrown in the towell and done something I should have done a long time ago. I'm going to start 2020 right! Because of my many cats, I buy boxes of 40 lbs clumping litter and at 77 I've had to swallow my pride and admit they are HEAVY. So, I just went to Amazon and ordered myself a dolly to carry them to their litter boxes. I have a dolly for yard work, but don't want to use it inside the house. This is the dolly I just bought below. Plus, I bought two soft bras with front closure to wear around the house, I've been going braless and feel like a cave woman. :(

I need to buy one of those hand trucks. I also have found that things get heavier as I get older, notably large bags of dog food.

The dolly I bought can be used for lots of uses, and best of all, it can be collapsed when not in use and it had lots of good reviews. AND it was one of the cheapest.
