What not to do when you're emotionally played out...

Hari Om, y'all!

Keeping this intentionally vague: I have recently headed into the home stretch on a business deal. All along the way, the parties I have been dealing with have screwed up, big time, and I have had to keep on my toes to have them right their wrongs. Yesterday, a day before the conclusion of all of this, I was too tired to do much. Everything was dragging, for me. I canceled my lunch with my daughter, because I didn't trust driving. So, in this state of exhaustion, what was a great move on my part? "Hey, I know, how's about I sharpen my chef's knife with my too-short sharpening rods! What could possibly go wrong?" Well.........20200128_195918.jpg
Two hours later, after the urgent care place, I now have a butterflied, right, index finger, in a splint. What fun! Glad I'm a lefty!

How often do you push your limits?

omg treeguy';) what you like 'myself I would hide the knifes and use plastic types lollol
glad your a lefty...

Sorry for your boo boo. 🙁
Best be careful using knives. 😏lol

How often do I push my limits?
Too often for my own good.
Just ordered this:

Notice, it's for righties. I'm already wondering if it'll work when flipped around. I suppose if I start using it that way, the grain of the sharpeners should shape out just fine. For $7, I'll risk it.

Ouch - I always hate the "oh $#!+" thought that pops into my head a split second later.

Hope it heals up fast. Please let us know how the new sharpener works.

I'm typically pretty cautious, but stuff happens.

Yeah, I always have thought my "V" twin rod sharpener was too short, and an accident waiting to happen, but I unwisely brought it back into service, after thirty years, a few months ago, because it works so well. I was just too tired to use it, yesterday, but pushed on, nonetheless. Bad move, obviously. It went into the trash, yesterday, although I was tempted to rescue it, this morning. Instead, I ordered that unit, on Amazon.

Damn @treeguy64, guess it's too late to tell you to BE CAREFUL!!

To answer you question, I push my limits frequently....too frequently if I'm being completely honest. I'm in great shape for my age, but I have to remind myself frequently that I'm not bulletproof and that it's OK to put my feet up now and again. I just go go go all the time. And that's fine, because I am and always have been a doer, a go-getter, but I'm also pushing 70 and my energy flags now sooner than it used to.

Wow! I hope you heal up fast. I push my limits all the time. I'll never learn. Usually has to do with household chores. To tired to finish painting a room but decide to finish the job and then spill the paint, happened more than once. Trying to carry more than I should down our cellar stairs because I'm two tired to make 2 trips and then I drop everything.
I could list a hundred more.

I hope you business deal goes ok that would make you feel better.

About five years ago, my husband got his chainsaw, stepped on his ladder and started to saw off some limbs. Well, guess what happened? He cut his arm but didn't need stitches. Close call.

He's very lucky. I get the trades, for my profession, and every month several homeowners are killed when they take on tree trimming tasks without a working knowledge of proper procedure. A fall from only ten feet can be fatal, and frequently is, for those cutting limbs while on a ladder, wearing no personal protection equipment (PPE), and not tied in to higher limbs.

Chainsaws have to be up there on the list of homeowners injuries. My son works in the ER and sees lots of home owner accidents from knifes, mandolines, hedge trimmers, etc. Chainsaws are worse due to the damage they inflict.

@treeguy64 OUCH!!!!! Reminds me when I had to go to Urgent Care. I was doing one of my daily walks and stumbled and fell. Busted up my thumb pretty bad. Had to walk the rest of the way home with blood oozing out.. To this day I am not able to bend my left thumb all the way down. I sometimes push limits in making decisions..not too many physical limits. That day, I was just walking..not too physical.

A chainsaw is probably the Most Dangerous tool. I use mine frequently, and Always try think of what could go wrong ahead of time...and pay full attention to what I am doing. I make sure I have my helmet and kevlar chaps and good secure gloves on. Climbing onto a ladder with a chainsaw is a Sure recipe for an injury. I have a limb saw that allows me to reach several feet into a tree....while staying safely on the ground.
