Increase in Water & Sewer Rates

At the next village board meeting, the trustees will discuss increasing our water and sewer rates. I am paying about $350 a year now (we are billed in two increments in April and October)! They said when they doubled it 10 years ago, it would only be for 5 years to pay for the sewage treatment facility. The cost has done nothing but increase every year. Does anyone else pay this much for water?

Nope, we rent so it's a part of our rental fee. Actually, it's only $29.17/month. Sounds very reasonable to me when you consider that many people spent more than this going out for a meal. Water for showers, toilets, washing dishes plus all the sewage you want. Good deal; me thinks?

We pay way more than that. I'd love to have your bills, LOL.

I do understand why. There's been much pressure on utilities to upgrade old, earthquake-vulnerable infrastructure. This includes the water company - both the reservoirs and the underground pipes. This costs $$$$$$, but it's been long overdue in coming.

We pay about $45/mo. for water only. Then there's a connection charge, an elevation charge (we live in the hills), and the assessments for structure upgrades. All told the bill jumps to $135/mo. on average.

Where I live the county charges a flat annual sanitation/sewer fee of $438.89 for a single-family home and 3/4 of a fee for each rental unit.

The water charge is separate and is based on usage. The minimum charge per quarter is $37.83 with an additional charge of $2.91 per 100 cubic feet on anything over 1,300 cubic feet per quarter.

I'm thinking that this would work out to approx. $590.21/year in your situation.

LOL - "All the sewage you want."

We get a quarterly bill for water, bill is around $100 before we use any water

our council rates are $2.200 a year we pay it quarterly it’s excessive considering we live in a small
town of less than 4.000, don’t have thing like a community centre/ or public transport / have to get in the car if we want to do shopping or post any mail
We get our bin emptied one a week

We also pay a hefty yearly emergency services levy however we still have to pay for private ambulance cover

I live in a small village (maybe 250 people) and like you, all our services have disappeared over the years. Our rates are approx £1500 a year - about $2000 US. However, this includes sewage and unlimited water. The council does a pretty good job of keeping the place neat and tidy - a LOT better service than we had in Hampshire.

Private well and septic system.

same here. Electric bill runs about 40-50 dollars a month for my whole house. (cook stove, pool washer, dryer, microwave, etc and even electric heat on occasions).
These water bills are one of the things I dis-agreed with in Florida. Our house and all the ones around us had each our own well and septic, yet we were charged a water bill as part of the electric bill.
