Ever go 100 mph in a car?

I was the back seat passenger on a kwaki 1000 some years ago doing 160mph.... OMG..there was no hold bar at the back of the seat...and the driver ( my ex) was wearing a leather jacket so I could barely get a grip of it to hold on, I felt for sure I was going to be blown right off the back!!

I had a KZ 900 2 stroke Kawasaki when I was exceeding young and dumb, and that thing would flat scare you to death. Can't imagine someone hanging on the back of a 1000 for dear life. My hat's off to you.

I often thought about putting a turbo on my Corvette, but that would actually lower the resale value because everyone would know that I beat the crap out of it.

Hey--I also had a KZ902. What a bike. I had to sell it. I damn near killed myself driving it one Saturday late in the evening and a deer walked out in front of me. The good Lord was shining down on me that night. I have no idea why I didn't crash.

Some of you folks are a lot braver than me. I think I take after my Mom.

Don
Wasn't bravery, but desperation. Had to save my cat. Speedometer went to at least 140mph, so I figured it must be able to do it, or it wouldn't be there. Was a weekday late morning and almost no other traffic. Think I hit 120 at several points. The other times, no emergencies involved. Not too many other times btw.

An elderly man was driving down the interstate at 22 miles per hour. He never went above or below. An officer noticed and followed him a while and then pulled him over. Before the officer could even get to the window the man was saying "I was not speeding, the speed limit is 22 mph and that is exactly what I was doing, I was not speeding".

The police officer said, "I didn't pull you over for speeding, I pulled you over for going to slow".

The man said "but the sign says 22".

The officer told him that he was on interstate 22. As the man shook his head, the officer noticed that there were 3 older ladies sitting inside the car. All of them were sitting with their mouths hanging open and spit drooling down the side. Their faces were very white and their hair was completely messy.

The police officer leaned toward the man and said "What is wrong with them?"

The man said "well, we just came off of interstate 134".

I suspect you mean the bugatti chiron...rather than the veyron ? :p
Absolutely. It’s all about the need for speed.

I met Niki Lauda once. This man tells a lot of very interesting stories about his racing days. Him and Ferrari (can’t spell his first name) hooked up to build the fastest Formula One race car. I think he also talked about his days with Jaguar engineers helping them to build their race cars. He also had a relationship with McLaren and Alfa Romero. He told us a lot of great stories, including when he crashed and burned. He still carries the scars.

I met Niki during an NTSB investigation. He owned a small airline and he actually owned the first B-767, which crashed and killed everyone onboard. I was invited to an NTSB inquiry because I flew the B-767 and Niki was there. We had some very interesting discussions. Probably as many about cars as we did planes. It was later found that his plane crashed due to the number one engine’s thrust reverser deploying while in flight.

Oldman ...that's a great story but I just have to remind you that Nicki Lauda no longer bears the scars of that terrible crash ( which I watched happen ) ..he died last May... :(

Yes I did when I got my first car. The road I took to get home from work had a lot of shallow bumps, not speed bumps just nice kind of soft bumps. When you picked up speed it seemed like the car was air born for a second or two. I did it most everyday and never got caught.
These days if the hubby goes over 40 and isn't riding in the gutter I'm screaming at him.

I knew that he had died. I failed to mention his death. He was a great racer with a lot of great stories and the people he helped in racing in turn helped their companies. I met him in 1991 during an NTSB investigation. He was a really likable fellow. The scars from the fiery crash were somewhat still apparent at that time. He told us that there was no way he should have lived.

His airline didn’t do well after the crash. I’m not sure how long he kept the company going, but I believe he only had a few planes to begin with. The thing that impressed me most about him was that he wasn’t insecure about sharing his knowledge about cars and especially racing.

About 25 years ago, Dave bought a new Acura sporty car -- stick shift, low to the ground, fast. I called it his mid-life crisis car. We took a road trip to Santa Fe. Somewhere in New Mexico, on a lonely, long stretch of road, he opened that sucker up and we hit 100 for maybe 30 seconds before we slowed down. Exhilarating but a bit scary.

Porch 911 while in Germany. This thing had no suspension to speak of, the new owner was having problems with it. The dealership said it was fine which involved me. We found out that at 150 k it started dancing a little and then side ways a little. We went back to the dealership and when I told them what happened they took the car in..the front end was twisted. I was with the test driver a week later when the replacement car arrived. That man scared me, brand new car he hit 200 k on the Autobahn. Powerline poles looked like picket fences. The owner, never took it over 120, beautiful car incredible ride at speeds. As long as the pavement is smooth. I never took it over 170 after that....
Now I just drive an old truck. 2005 heavy duty 3/4 ton diesel. The engine is a 6.6 ltr diesel with a turbo....lol love it. Powerful and real fast. I use the cruise a lot....lol
That need for speed.....šŸŽ :love::love:
