Bistro Provence owner Genevieve Guy thinks cellphone use at dinner isn’t good manners, and she’s making a statement at her Memorial-area restaurant. KHOU reports that a line in the bistro’s menu reads: “As a courtesy to other guests, please do not use your cellphone in the dining room. Using your cellphone will result in a $5 tuition fee to teach you good manners!”

Now if only the rest of the world would follow suit.

Bet you $5 she has wi fi access in her restaurant. Something to do while waiting for your order.

I'm the 'look it up'guy for our coffee gang in the mornings. Sure settles a lot of arguments.
I turn my phone off at public meetings, funerals, etc. Is there such a thing as a dining room in a restaurant? The whole place is a dining room.

I don't even use a cell phone and I too find some cell phone users to be inconsiderate, but I would be seriously disinclined to patronize this restaurant. Posting such a statement, which is something I would never say to a guest in my home, tells me that Genevieve Guy's definition of "guest" and mine are dramatically different.

I agree but if you go out in public don't expect to be eating in peace. There's constant motion and noise all around you. You are not alone and are at the mercy of others. You might get lucky once in awhile in a place frequented by seniors eating early.

I use my cell phone for texting family members while I'm waiting for food and usually relaying to my husband what they are saying. Such as 2 days ago when our daughter was in the hospital and one of her texts was "I WANT MY MOMMY AND DADDY :giggle: :giggle::giggle:! I would have to tell that restaurant owner to kiss my behind and I'd never go back there again!

Today at lunch there was a man 2 tables away from us talking loudly on his cell phone but everyone else in there was being polite like I was. You can't regulate manners!

I find that I become older I like restaurants less & less. 1. The cell phone use by people with no manners, 2. The bad food with very high calories, high salt & high everything else, 3. The bad music/TV screens advertising something. 4. Being forced to tip when you pay the bill. Nothing like a nice home cooked meal with a nice glass of wine.
