Stir Crazy

Cabin Fever....find something to do inside the cabin.

If you're sick, make chicken soup, declutter, read, learn a new language online, get in touch with an old friend, a jigsaw puzzle, clean out the cupboards, go through the fridge and throw out all the expired condiments, get rid of all the bookmarked stuff on the puter, sort through and put all those old photos into an album, go to a senior centre and meet some new friends.

Hey.... it's winter in Canada, we Canucks know how to handle it.

You can't go out of the house Lee if it's coronovirus or any type of flu , so nobody can go to a senior centre...

"Senior Isolation" is a serious problem, and can create all sorts of problems....both physical and mental. As we age, it becomes increasingly important to find ways to socialize, and occupy our time.
If this Corona Virus starts causing quarantines, etc., Seniors will become the most impacted. This would be a good time to evaluate your activities and hobbies, etc., and look for ways to keep as fit and active as possible....in case some 2 week "stay home" edict hits your area.

I don't get that. I much prefer my own company to any "socialization" and don't find it a problem whatsoever. And why would seniors be the "most impacted?"

I'm such a loner that being ordered to self-quarantine wouldn't be a ripple in my pond. I can literally go for weeks without any urge to leave my house/yard. As long as we have food, air conditioning, books and internet I am good to go.
I long for my yard in the midwest during the spring, summer and fall.

We care more than you know - you're family to us.
It's very sweet of you as a relative newby to the forum to feel that you've become such an integral member of the 'family''...some of us including Mike have been here for many years.. and therefore been good friends for a long time. We've seen many people come and go in that time, but we do enjoy it when we get genuinely nice people like yourself and the all the new members we've had join recently who seem to fit in so well with this online forum family and we hope you'll continue to stay with us for a long time.. 🤗

When I worked in the Falkland Islands building an
Airport, we all lived in a camp, one or two to a room
and we had cleaners, some of the cleaners would use
a toothbrush that was in the room, to clean round the
taps/faucets and then put it back in the glass, I was told!

Mike.
Yes I've seen documentary CCTV evidence of cleaners doing the same thing in Hotel rooms...some of the classiest hotels in the world too....for that reason I never ever leave my toothbrush out when I'm staying at a hotel..

I have been out one day in the last two weeks, to go
to a supermarket and it is not easy, although I don't go
out too often, the fact that we are told to stay in if in
doubt about the cough you have makes it something
that I don't want to do, but looking in the mirror, I see
an old man looking back at me and this is the type of
citizen that is required to do as I am told!

There are only a few TV programmes worth watching
and because I had trouble with my box, I lost all of my
recordings.

I hope that you don't have to do this, but if you do I
hope that you are able to cope.

Mike.
Mike, if you haven't been tested for the virus and it's only a cough or cold, can't you go out in the countryside for a walk alone? If you're concerned about someone you may bump into, can't you just put on a face mask for the day?

I went out shopping yesterday and decided that I would stay away from people and crowds for a couple of weeks. I don't want to catch anything that I may bring home to make my husband sick. But, I will go out every day for at least one walk with my dog alone in the park. I'm not having any symptoms, but I would wear a mask if I had any question that I may infect others. Wishing you the best, being home alone must be the worst in all cases. We do care about you, hang in there. đź’™

Yeah, I don't understand. I guess to alleviate the face mask shortage, they say only sick people need to wear masks. BUT, it takes a few days to realize that you're sick and in the meantime you have infected lots of people.

Hi SeaBreeze, I am OK here, I live in the city and I don't really
fancy driving into the countryside, to get somewhere to walk
isn't easy here, the best solution would be a park, the country
is all farms and private houses dotted around plus the odd
castle that are probably closed just now for the Winter, so here
and the garden/yard is the solution, but thanks for the suggestion.

Mike.

Schools in PA are closed for 2 weeks.

Public library also closed,, should have got in there yesterday to stock up on books.
I don't have an Ipad or kindle to read books on.

Looks like I 'might ' get mending caught up,, yard work done , weather permitting.
Same here in Toronto. I feel for parents who need to work. I guess now's a good time for me to start using the iPad my daughter gave me for Xmas.

perhaps you could afford to buy proper books on Amazon... some start at just a penny... (y)

Mrs L and I were discussing what we would do if we "Self isolated". It would be almost like business as usual. This is a small village surrounded by farms and woods. We could easily take a walk and never meet anyone. If we did meet anyone we knew, we could just stand in the road and chat. This happens all the time here.

Other than that, it's time we got the garden on order, planted the potatoes etc..
