Shopping, shopping, shopping, are you shopping more and spending more money on what you buy at the grocery store?

I find I am shopping more than I ever have in my life. How about you?

One store has milk, another wipes, the third dish soap, the fourth nothing I need, the fifth bleach, and so on. One per family or one per customer. Nope, that guy is not related to me, now give me my toilet paper and how many wipes can I have.

So much for buying stuff for a neighbor, couldn‘t get two tuna packages at the Costco, and no canned chicken or spam. I get stuff for the group home. My oldest son says ”mom you shouldn’t be shopping but while you’re out my significant other is desperate for wipes.” “wear your mask”, she yells. Yup, we are all desperate for wipes. Four hours later, stores are getting busy, we are done shopping.

Called son, wipes, bleach, dish soap, and an anti virus Clorox spray for countertops, for all of us. 🤣 one per family member please. The grocery budget is no longer flexible, it’s life saving. But, wow, is stuff expensive.
 

I'm only shopping when I have to go out.. essentials only they say... so I've been going shopping approx once a fortnight just for essentials.... Our stores all have very long queues, one week I stood in queue for 2 supermarkets because I couldn't get what I needed in the first.. it darn near put me off shopping for life..:oops:. I hate shopping at the best of times.. but I also feel there's a lot of people going out shopping just for the sake of going out, and although it's understandable to try and get out and get some air if you live in an apartment, it's the wrong thing to be doing unless you really need stuff......people all bunched together in stores even despite the 6 foot distancing is a recipe for disaster at the moment..

Also...sorry Aneeda.. I'm not having a pop at you Per se, I'm sorry you have to go to all those different stores..... but just a reminder if people insist on using wipes instead of using a cloth and a spray please remember not to throw the wipes down the toilet... it blocks all the systems up... and with plumbers barely working at the moment, if sewers get blocked and sewerage leaks out onto roads.. then we'll have a different pandemic on our hands... :cautious:

I find that I'm spending more but shopping less.

I've been making one early morning trip each week and trying to limit myself to one store. I grumble a little about not being able to find certain things but so far I've been able to find everything that I need by making a few minor substitutions.

I have made a couple of small online purchases from eBay. I've noticed that some of the things that I collect are much cheaper right now as people conserve cash and focus on necessities.

So far I've been very fortunate that this pandemic has only been an annoying little inconvenience for me.

We are SUPPOSED to go out and do our weekly shopping, J, of course, my DS son, does not and cannot not go out. As for the others, son’s girlfriend has an essential job. She goes Into work and does not have time to shop very much. Son had open heart surgery 6 months ago. He shouldn’t shop.

Our state does not have a stay at home order in place, btw. As for your staying home, Keesha, even before the virus you rarely went out, as I remember. You live in an isolated place in Canada, don’t you? In any event, you are right, I only need the wipes because I go out and shop.

You cannot buy wipes on line. Oh, I was able to get baby wipes for my SIL who lives in Seattle who desperately needed them. Seattle does have a very strong stay at home order. They are not just for babies. Mailed them to her and she got them Friday. Yup, shop, shop, shop.
 
I sympathise with Aneeda. We normally shop in 4 stores which are close to one another to get the best prices. Now we have to shop in (sometimes) 6 stores just to get what we need.
(still can't get bread flour and we're limited in how much we can buy of other items)
Believe be, we don't shop for the fun of it, and it's only once a fortnight. Less frequently we go to the independent butcher and fishmonger. We spend pretty much the same as before - maybe a little more on beer and wine.

Yup, no wipes down the toilet, in this stupid old house I’m lucky if TP goes down the toilet.

Haven’t seen flour in forever, but that’s ok I don’t bake. Most of our stuff, food wise, we can get at a small neighborhood store, but they are very expensive.

If I didn‘t go out I would need less wipes, the ones I use for my hands, but here’s a thought for all those that order on line and get delivery. That stuff that you order, where does it come from, where is it made. I now wipe down everything that comes into this house.

The virus lives on everything an infected person touches for up to two weeks. A food plant closed here for three days because some who worked on the packaging line had the virus. A meat plant in Colorado closed down to be cleaned because over 400 employees had the virus. But they were still testing.

Once a week we order take out, and while they say it’s safe, who knows? Paper money, coins, droplets in the air etc. The first case in our state was from a person from out of town. Staying at home is safer, not safe. I’ve seen crazy stuff when I am out shopping.

We have all seen the crazy stuff people are doing on line. Stay safe, but don’t crazy staying inside, at least go for a walk, weather permitting.

The Spousal Equivalent does all the shopping these days. Because of the bronchitis and pneumonia, the doctor told me to STAY IN and I've been compliant. I go out to walk around the block and I did go up to the river walk to take a nice long stroll, but otherwise, I'm a hermit.

I can't believe it, but I actually miss going to the mall and going to Walmart and going to the post office and going to …………….

Lol, I asked my son the other day if the mall was open, nope. I don’t go to the mall very often but got a sudden urge-for cheesecake-which is sold at the mall. I go out and walk once a day, our neighborhood is empty, everyone staying inside.
 
We have a stay at home order.
Around here, you are allowed to go to the grocery stores, but they strongly discourage weekly shopping if you can help it. They have said to stock up for 2-3 weeks if you can. Since early March, I have only been to the store twice. ... I used to go weekly.

It's just myself & doggy, but I think I'm learning how to stretch what I do buy these days. If I need something in between times, the online sites are always my answer, as in the past.
 
I have no way of knowing if I am spending more or less for groceries and related items, since I don't try to keep track of it. Whatever it is, it is. Haven't needed to look for groceries on line. I have tried to buy masks and latex gloves on line, but nothing has arrived yet. Masks were 30 days delivery time, still don't know about the gloves.

As an aside, I did call my parents, both brothers and my son yesterday to wish them Happy Easter and to tell them I loved them. Great therapy. I suggest you try it.

We do exactly the same thing. Every packet that comes into the house from the supermarket or through the post gets wiped down with isopropyl. or Dettol anti Viral spray ...before it's put away. It makes shopping an extra stressful experience from queueing outside to get in to the store, huge queues at the checkouts, and then coming home and spending the time cleaning everything down, before putting it away then taking outside clothes off and puttting them straight in the wash..

Also today in the media a virologist was saying it's not enough to just leave your shoes at the door when you come in, you must either leave them outside (if you can)... or disinfect them before bringing them into the house..so take them off at the doorstep because especially any shoes with rubber soles are carrying the virus for days (that's if you've been where other people have been , not your own garden) and spray them with anti viral spray and leave them at the door. They also suggest using the same shoes to go out each time... ... ...it just seems hardly worth going out at all with all the risks ...

I speak to my family every day without fail on whatsapp... or face time...
 
It's my birthday in 4 days. (big one 65) ... hubs has told me to go online and choose something to ''cheer me up'' which he will buy for my birthday being as we can't go out anywhere... or abroad to see my daughter... but , I kinda feel like there's nothing material I want. I just want the physical company of other people, to go out and be in a Coffee bar having a latte , or a pub having Sunday lunch , or down at the river with our boat.... :(

Next year you can celebrate DOUBLE @hollydolly ! Have a good 65th anyway .... buy a little something for the occasion this year though. :)
