Shopping, shopping, shopping, are you shopping more and spending more money on what you buy at the grocery store?

I know exactly what you mean. We want to go to our friend's farm , see the new lambs and then sit back and have a coffee (or maybe a glass of wine). We want to go for a walk along the coast and then drop in for a pub lunch, or visit a castle and walk round its grounds.

You just can't buy these things on-line.

We do exactly the same thing. Every packet that comes into the house from the supermarket or through the post gets wiped down with isopropyl. or Dettol anti Viral spray ...before it's put away. It makes shopping an extra stressful experience from queueing outside to get in to the store, huge queues at the checkouts, and then coming home and spending the time cleaning everything down, before putting it away then taking outside clothes off and puttting them straight in the wash..

Also today in the media a virologist was saying it's not enough to just leave your shoes at the door when you come in, you must either leave them outside (if you can)... or disinfect them before bringing them into the house..so take them off at the doorstep because especially any shoes with rubber soles are carrying the virus for days (that's if you've been where other people have been , not your own garden) and spray them with anti viral spray and leave them at the door. They also suggest using the same shoes to go out each time... ... ...it just seems hardly worth going out at all with all the risks ...
Yup, do the same thing with my clothes, and I wash my hair. Cause I run my hands through my hair. I wondered about the shoes, but I can not get down on the floor so I decided to not worry about it. You can only do so much.

Next year you can celebrate DOUBLE @hollydolly ! Have a good 65th anyway .... buy a little something for the occasion this year though. :)
yes both my daughter whose birthday it is today... and I agreed just this morning, that we'll both have to have a big celebration next year....hopefully this will be all over and we can take a trip away somewhere exotic.

I'll have a look and see if I can find something small tho' for me just to mark the day being as it's my 65th,... thanks Bonnie

just make sure and take them off at the door Aneeda, even if you can't actually disinfect them

It's my birthday in 4 days. (big one 65) ... hubs has told me to go online and choose something to ''cheer me up'' which he will buy for my birthday being as we can't go out anywhere... or abroad to see my daughter... but , I kinda feel like there's nothing material I want. I just want the physical company of other people, to go out and be in a Coffee bar having a latte , or a pub having Sunday lunch , or down at the river with our boat.... :(
Happy early Birthday! I want to see my daughter as well, sigh, first Easter we were not together. Want to see my granddaughter and great granddaughter. Pictures just don’t do it. But on a happy note daughter sent me a video of great granddaughter saying her first word.

They have been working very hard on this, as she does not speak and she is 2 years old. Her first word, lol, EAT. Well, she certainly fits into our overweight overeating family 🤣. A ray of sunshine in a dark time.

I agree, but I paid 3X the price for my Vitamin C fix. .... either pay it and get gouged, or do without.
I wish I had cut down on the amount of Vit. C I take before I began getting low. I didn't do good planning for this, I know I would have done better if there were someone else to care for. I'm ok, I have enough but do wish I had more Vit. C.

The bottle I saw yesterday was one of two bottles, and the only Vit. C I've seen in weeks.

We're spending about the same amount as before on groceries, perhaps a little less because we're eating some pantry items that had been stored up. All our other discretionary spending has dropped to nearly zero. Obviously not going out to eat and we've never been all that keen on take-out (it's cold by the time we get it home and start eating).

I go once a week and buy pretty much the same things every week. If it wasn't for the cats I'd not go even that often. My daughter's-in-law offer to pick up a few things for me but they don't know what I need and it's more than a few things. Only go to Wal-Mart and maybe Lowes for conditioner salt. I keep my head down and go when the stores aren't very active.

We are SUPPOSED to go out and do our weekly shopping, J, of course, my DS son, does not and cannot not go out. As for the others, son’s girlfriend has an essential job. She goes Into work and does not have time to shop very much. Son had open heart surgery 6 months ago. He shouldn’t shop.

Our state does not have a stay at home order in place, btw. As for your staying home, Keesha, even before the virus you rarely went out, as I remember. You live in an isolated place in Canada, don’t you? In any event, you are right, I only need the wipes because I go out and shop.

You cannot buy wipes on line. Oh, I was able to get baby wipes for my SIL who lives in Seattle who desperately needed them. Seattle does have a very strong stay at home order. They are not just for babies. Mailed them to her and she got them Friday. Yup, shop, shop, shop.

It wasn’t a criticism towards anybody else.
We don’t have a lock down where we live and I don’t go out much except to walk, bike, hike, kayak etc., so this is much easier for me than most but I’m not comparing myself with anyone.

We are following the rules and guidelines set by our prime minister , scientists and professional virus experts. I don’t live in an isolated place. I live in a rural area.

Do what you need to do Aneeda to look after yourself and your family. You don’t need to defend your actions, especially not to me.

Since my husband still goes to work and is exposed to more people, he does all the shopping. We ARE somehow spending more but I think it’s because we have taken up eating as our new hobby. 🤦‍♀️

Well, eating has always been a hobby with us. As I posted elsewhere the youngest great granddaughter is behind and at two years of age is learning to sign and talk. Her first word, EAT. Yup, she fits right in, lol.

From the pictures you posted in the past, I thought you were isolated, sorry my mistake. I only remembered you don‘t like crowds (I think this is correct) because my son does not like crowds either.

And thank you. That’s my point, we all have to do what we have to do to get through this.

Haha. Youngest GREAT granddaughter? Wow! I didn’t realize. Congratulations!

We aren’t completely isolated but there aren’t many neighbours on our country road so we are somewhat isolated. When I go for walks I rarely meet anyone except possibly a few horseback riders or ATVer’s. This is our backyard.

It really is a quiet, peaceful lifestyle so this virus doesn’t have the same impact on me as it does on most others at the moment but before this virus I was caring for my senile parents .

Discussing my lifestyle doesn’t going over well with others, especially at the present moment which was why I was reluctant to share. 810F526F-A7B4-456C-A133-203D6A58FD67.jpeg

I haven't been out in 4 weeks. The hubby went out this morning for milk and eggs. He got the milk but there were no eggs.
We were very lucky because there were some really good buys on some meats and canned goods before this all happened. For years we have always bought sale items in bulk.
Our store has what they call a "can can" sale and sell many items in bulk.
We have a large cool storage room and two chest freezers so we have no need to hoard or to buy anything but milk and eggs.
Because of this we have been spending a whole lot less and it helps others get what they need.
Of course when our supplies dwindle down we will need to replenish. I'm sure the prices will be higher than normal so it will all average out.
At least we have reduced the risk of getting the virus to next to nothing or giving it to others if we did carry it and have the convenience of not having to go out.

I spend about the same and have groceries delivered. I actually think I save money having deliveries because I don't wander the store, adding junk to my cart. Anyway, not much change in our habits or expenses. I have a lot of pantry staples and meats, vegetables in the big freezer so I mostly buy fresh produce and dairy.
