Reminds me of people who would dump peanuts into a bottle of Pepsi. I don't think it worked with Coke. Or with RC.
I've been on a peanut kick lately. How do you like your peanuts?

I don't remember seeing Dickies in this area but we did have BUN bars in assorted flavors.
A favorite of mine was the Planters JUMBO BLOCK, similar to crunchy peanut brittle.
Now I love those @Aunt Bea ^^
I like peanut butter, but find that I hardly ever eat it. For the 'lockdown' I made sure that I bought a jar of Jif ... it still sits there untouched.
And my dog doesn't really care for it in any form except maybe a pb cookie ... I thought dogs were supposed to love the stuff.

I like them too but they are definitely an acquired taste. It's fun to watch a yankee eat the first one.

Haha. Most people who've never had them react the same way... eeeuuuuuuuw. My husband didn't want to try them but he was soon a convert.

I bought a can not long ago just to say I've tried them.
Are they supposed to be submerged in water? Nasty-assed slimy stuff.
I cannot imagine them coming from a can. All I have ever had were bought from roadside stands along a Florida back road. Sort of like in Maine you can buy live lobster from the back of a pick-up parked along side of road.

Oh, good heavens. Those canned ones are nasty; they should be illegal. You have to have fresh green peanuts to boil.

So you boiled your own?
Yeh, I was shocked when I popped the top off. I would have been pi$$ed if I had been sitting in my brand new car. Thank goodness I opened them on the walk out of the store. I was just expecting a can of shelled peanuts like dry roasted ones, except cooked by boiling.
I threw them away.

Yes, we boil our own. Wash them well, cover with cold water and lots of salt, boil for a looooong time. Drain and ta-da. Great with beer and can be frozen. You have to start with fresh green peanuts.

They used to be sold in small paper bags, dry. I haven't seen a roadside stand in a long time, but they used sell them like a food concession, not for long-term storage. When I was a little girl I could buy a small paper bag of boiled peanuts on the town square for 10 cents.

Yes.
No. The setup would be a hand made sign "Hot Boiled Peanuts", roadside stand with an open cooker, pan being size of large wash tub, steam rolling off tub of boiling very salty water filled with raw peanuts still in shell.
To sell, vendor would scoop a serving and allow it to drain. Then dump into small paper bag. Pay the man, take your bag and then shell and eat immediately or as soon as cool enough to handle. They would be hot, very wet and delicious.
Some sellers had picnic table at stand. Otherwise, lean against side of your car. The trick was to get to bottom of bag and eat last peanut while it was still warm and BEFORE bottom of bag disintegrated. Only the very brave tried to drive while shelling and eating hot wet peanuts. Also made awful mess in car.
Thanks for trip down memory lane. Anyone else remember old Florida back roads?

Salted Spanish peanuts on top chocolate poured over vanilla ice cream. It's called, "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof".

My dad managed an old Five & Dime (G.C. Murphy's.) They had a bulk candy counter and roasted nuts on the premises (and made their own candy and caramel apples.).
Spanish peanuts were always my favorite. Something about the way the salt adheres to the skins, which are delicious in their own right.
Never had them on ice cream.
Roasted and salted. I haven't had one of those little greasy bags of them from the vending machine in ages.
I ate them boiled once when I was down south; had never heard of boiled before. They were pretty good.
There was a Planter's Peanut store downtown when I was a child. There was a huge barrel on it's side, rolling continuously while roasting peanuts in it.
Planter's Peanuts had the famous "Mr. Peanut" logo. A guy dressed up like him would often walk up and down the street, handing out mini bags of free peanuts.
When I got my first car, a VW Beetle, I painted the "Mr. Peanut on the driver's side door. He was easy to paint.
