The Lewis and Clark Expidition

I wonder why it was the "Lewis and Clark Expedition" and not the "Clark and Lewis Expedition".

Did they toss a coin? Did Lewis put in more money? Did Clark come late to the party? Did Lewis stamp his foot and refuse to go if his name wasn't first?
Merriweather Lewis was T Jefferson's secretary, he asked Clark (a friend and experienced frontiersman) to join him.

After the expedition Clark became a successful businessman and politician. Lewis died 3 years after the expedition ended under mysterious circumstances. The adventure was made into a movie in 1955 entitled "Far Horizons" with Charlton Heston and Fred MacMurray playing the leads.

I think I saw that movie.I did enjoy reading about them too.

Two incredibly brave people whose contribution to settling this country is priceless. Balls of steel.

I agree they were very brave and fearless.
Was it them whoi discovered the Continental Divide, sorry I'm having a senior moment her if it is a stupid question, lol.

I believe Cpt Lewis suffered from mental illness, as his documented behavior after the great expedition was similar to one diagnosed with schizophrenia.

On the lighter side of things, I came up with this sign:
