Order or a semblance of order

Order or a semblance of order even where there is none.

I love neat people and their adherance to order. I'm not one of them but the shutdown gave me something to do which I have been planning for a long time.
I previously posted about saving prescription bottles to save small parts in.
Today I decided to tackle it.
I reorganized my junk drawer for all the screws, bolts, nuts, washers, and miscellaneous acquired over the years. I have always been able to find one item to repair something I was working on.
Sorted according to the Head category, e.g. Phillips, Slot, Allen, Nuts, Washers, etc.
Now they will be easier to locate next time I drop a screw and can't find it. (Boy do they roll a long way)
There are some screws that need a special screwdriver. They are installed in appliances where the manufacturer doesn't want you to open and repair.

Yup, I too have gobs of nut/bolts/small hardware in my workshop. I've got them all organized in small organizers and cabinets so when I need one, I can usually find what I need quickly. Losing a nut or washer can be frustrating if I don't have a replacement on hand.

Great idea.

I swear we have a million screws, bolts, nuts, fasteners, clips, nails, hangers, etc. out in the garage. The only thing I can guarantee is that whatever we need, we don't have that particular one. It never fails.

So it involves a trip to the hardware store to buy one......but they only come in packs of 25. We buy the pack of 25. A year later, we need that particular one again. And you know what's coming next, don't you? The other 24 have disappeared into the ozone....or under the workbench, which amounts to the same thing.

It's a great idea but it isn't the way I was raised.

When we were kids my father had five-gallon metal pails filled with various bits of hardware and when he needed a particular item it was our job to poke around in the buckets and find what he needed to complete a particular job. On the surface it doesn't sound very efficient but it kept me and my sister busy while he worked in peace.

Today I use a plastic mayonnaise jar filled with odds and ends of things that might come in handy someday. I probably should throw the jar out and just buy what I need when I need it because the number and variety of things in the jar seems to have steadily increased over the years.

An idea that I love but never did - fasten the lids to jars under a workshop shelf and screw on your clear jars of odds and ends. They are easily visible and easily accessed this way. For me, I have assorted storage cases, jars with lids, lids without jars, assorted boxes, piles of 'to be sorted' - and then there are all those specialized parts for various specialized tools /-;

One of these days, I'm going to organize ... haha... But good for you Camper6!

I was raised on organizing the bits & pieces of hardware (civil engineer father) & still do it . But like jujube never seem to have the particular one, so the hoard grows little by little. Lived the part about the screws and screwdrivers for the appliances that the mfgrs don’t want you to try to fix.

Yes if you want to try to change the battery in your IPhone you need a special screwdriver. Your car needs a special screwdriver for a headlight or taillight bulb change. The bulbs are cheap.
