House plants-Easy to grow and maintain

This plant is called Maranta or Prayer Plant because at night it lifts its leaves up in prayer fashion.

The picture is of a plant that is about 20 years old. It has to be pruned every once in awhile and you can easily take cuttings and root them in water.

Very easy to maintain. Just give it a drink when the leaves get limp.Maranta.jpg

Have these all along the inside back of our house - two stories up - have maintained them for many many years, but now going to rework them to do less watering:100_7243.jpeg

Maranta or Prayer Plant

Thanks for this reminder of this plant, that I enjoyed years ago, when I had one.
It's fun to try to watch to see when those leaves move, each day!

And yes, it was easy to maintain, and foliage is lovely too.

I seem to recall that it did not need a lot of sunlight either, which is helpful for finding a spot for a houseplant.
Is that memory of mine, correct?

Think I've seen that. My dear grandparents had one and I loved it when it went into prayer mode. It always fascinates me how plants behave/survive. Sending you a picture of a house plant I've had for over 16years. I have never repotted it or fed it just watered and sprayed leaves. It has grown and grown and grown. Do not even know the name of the plant but it seems happy :)

You are correct. Does not need direct sunlight. The foliage changes depending on how much light it gets.

That appears to be a Hawaiian Schefflera or "Umbrella Plant." https://www.google.com/search?q=haw...VMLKwKHZnSBVAQ_AUoAnoECBsQBA&biw=1152&bih=571
