Is anyone still driving an old car?

I have a Fiat Punto registered 1996. Low mileage 38814 - don't drive it that often now but I do drive it , always maintained it with a service, if necessary, and always the required MOT and Insurance which is very low because of the years of 'No claims'. I love it because of it's simplicity. Doors open with an ordinary key no electric 'fob'. Windows are manually wound up or down. Sun roof has a handle that you turn by hand. Great rubber type bumper at the rear so no problems if someone went into the back of the car (obviously at a slow speed) and I have a cassette player. :DThink it might be heading towards car heaven at the end of the year but the idea of buying a more modern car does not appeal to me. Perhaps I should get a scooter!!!!!

2008 Ford Focus +80,000 miles
Bought it to replace my 1993 Ford Tempo over 100,000 miles. Sold that one to a guy for 500 bucks. It's still on the road.

I drove my 2007 Honda CR-V for 14 years. I wanted a new car for the sake of all the safety features like a backup camera. My son-in-law is driving it now. My husband drove his Acura for 20 years and had over 250,000 miles on it.

Carol have you got the dates right ? :giggle:  .. a 2007 car would only be 13 years old now

When my car was in the garage being repaired a few years ago.. my lovely friend lent me her white Fiat punto, 1995 which they'd had for a long time... to use in the interim ( a month) until my car was back ... it was so kind of her and her husband and I was very grateful.... BUT.. I have to say, that car was so slow..lol.. and I had to drive it in first gear , while it tried to negotiate anything more than a 1 in 2 hill, and I live at the top of a very steep hill... so it was amusing to try and get that little punto up there in one piece... I was afraid I was going to ruin the gearbox...

However , it ran on air.. really it did.. I filled it up with fuel the day I got it, and when it was time to return it , I still had half a tank...

A 2007-model car would have started being sold in 2006......usually September or maybe even earlier. It's just a ploy by the auto manufacturers to make you think you're getting something you're not.

This year might be different ,though, because of the plant shutdowns. We might not see some of the 2021 models coming out until....gasp....2021.

We have a 2006 Impala LTZ that just turned 83,000 miles, and a 1997 Dodge Dakota that went over 100K miles a few weeks ago. I had to take the Dodge into a repair shop this morning to have a noisy water pump replaced....that will probably cost about $400...but still far cheaper than $50K to buy a new truck. I've reached the point where the "magic" of buying a new car is of little importance. If I can keep them going for a reasonable sum, I would rather save the money, or spend it on something else. I used to be a "car guy", but now all I want is reliable transportation.

I had to give up my `04 Tahoe 2 years ago at 265,000 miles,All of a sudden,we could both tell she was getting tired. But Mr. R still drives his `03 Toyota Tundra truck. It only has about 175,000 on it,we live about a mile from his work and other than back and forth to work,he only uses it to pick up hay every 2 weeks.

mine is a ten year old Renault Scenic on about 75,000 miles, i am trying to convince my son to upgrade and take my car, his is about 15 years old, i will look for an 8 year old with built in sat-nav diesel... our govt is on about giving folk like me £6000 for my car if i buy a new one... i have only ever own one brand new car, the stupidest thing i have ever done, i lost a fortune on it... where as a low mileage 8 year old is generally a good buy...
