NYC Police strongly considering a strike on July 4th

The New York Post reports today that the the city's police department is fed up and ready to take action.
So, you don't want police? OK, no problem, let's see how this goes.
If a single protestor complains about being raped, stabbed, punched, robbed, it is on them. The lootings in NYC are not being reported by mainstream media. They are not in keeping with the current media narrative.
Nature abhors a vacuum. A leader will emerge from this movement. Perhaps a Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Pol Pott...those will be the new leaders of the new movement,

Excuse me. I live in NYC and for lootings being a common occurrence, well, it's not. NYPost has become a dirt rag since Murdoch bought it. It was founded by Alexander Hamilton. You know him, he stars on Broadway!

WHAT??? Omg. People are literally going crazy. Our new leaders??? Wow! People’s preferences are standing out like flashing neon lights.

What I think, of course there are bad cops...and they need to be called out. There are bad teachers, bad stenogrphers, bad doctors too.....I don't want to throw out the baby with the bath water here. To defund and "do away" with all police would bring insufferable anarchy that no one on this forum has ever witnessed.

All non-essential stores are closed since mid-March because of coronavirus. Many have boarded up. If I still had my store, I would too. An ounce of prevention, etc.
Why board them up? Why not just leave the door unlocked and say "back in a jiff?"
and then why not leave the door unlocked knowing there are no cops around and no repercussion for a gentle soul who wanders in to "borrow" something????

No one has suggested that. Defund is a terrible word to use. It actually means to, i.e. cops are not social workers or psychiatrists. In situations involving mental illness, they should be used as a last resort while social services should be funded to take over in these cases. Also, funds can be diverted for social programs like PAL.

NYC depends on its cops. They are our first responders, our heroes of 9/11. Most New Yorkers love our police. Since we are the main target of international terrorists, we need them and honor them. It is not possible to disband NYC police. It's nonsense.

We agree! this is great....see, people can do this!

Just because you, along with millions of others don’t like Murdoch, doesn’t change the fact that the Post is more ethical than the NYT. I could give you my reasons, but you wouldn’t believe me. Or, you could ask James Bennett, formerly with the Times. Oh, that’s right. He was forced to resign because he ran an op-Ed piece by Tom Cotton supporting using the military to stop the riots.

Didn’t the NYPD already disband their plain clothes unit of some 600 officers? I think their top cop in NYC, Dermot Shea, is a two-faced sob. I think he’s trying to keep his job and please the idiot mayor de blasio at the same time, or as we say, have his cake and eat it too. I think the cops are finally catching on.

The NYPD is probably the finest of the fine of police in the U.S. But even so, I’m also aware that they may have a few bad apples in the bunch. When I saw those men rush into the towers on that fateful day in September on 9-11, I thought to myself, ā€œThese guys are absolutely the best of the best.ā€ Who does that? Everyone knew those towers were going to eventually come down, yet these men in blue were running into those buildings.

I was at Andrews on that morning. Our unit was put on alert, but didn’t fly. The next day, our squadron commander asked us, ā€œIf we were ordered to fly and we had confirmed that terrorists had taken control of the planes and we would have been ordered to shoot them down, would we have done it? (You don’t want to know the answer.) Keep in mind that there were Americans on those planes.

Would you have done it? the few for the many? What a horrific thing to ask of you. What mental turmoil, even hypothetically! I can't even imagine what you must have gone through!

I’m glad that you asked. When our Commander asked us the question, no one answered. We all just went numb, I believe. I wrestled with that question everyday for about three years and couldn’t reach an answer. If any of us would have pushed the button, we may have had to change the Constitution. We don’t kill our own. This isn’t like in the movie, ā€œThe Terminator.ā€ There is no such thing as collateral damage when it comes to this type of situation and you are given a choice. But then again..........

I'm gasping and my eyes are tear filled at even the thought of it! What of the men who must make decisions like this in a split second? And you had time, but would that make the decision easier? No, maybe ,more difficult! What a thing to carry with you! I respect your careful forethought.
