I guess that this being an American based and controlled forum, the opinions of this tv series will be open to discussion especially as the latest series is about to hit our screens in the UK.......... have never watched it myself, but have been to Highclere Castle often, well it's only ten minutes away, before they started to film this fictional series..now you can't get near it!! here is a link

What local events have you guys seen taken over?
 

I love Downton! Glad it's coming back on our screens soon. Am always planning to visit Highclere, it's only a 45 min drive away but we never get round to it.Probably always busy with the filming there anyway, but must go next year.I think it's also used in the Jeeves And Wooster series too, as ' Totleigh Towers ' where Gussie Finknottle [he of the newts] gets chased around by an angry Lord Dartmouth [or some such name, you know, the blackshirt leader.]If I was stuck on a desert island [with a tv and dvd player] those are the 2 series I would want with me. P.G. Wodehouse rules!
 
Would take Jeeves............. Stephen Fry is brilliant...............gives us a wave oakapple as you drive past our house on the A 34!
 

I love Downton, too. Alas, I've never been to Highclere, but there's been a program about it on our TV here. We won't see the new season until January. The only thing I don't like about it is that the season is so short.

Jeeves and Wooster...I've always thought it should be Jeeves and Worster, but what do I know? I'd forgotten about Gussie. That was one very funny program, and DH and I never missed an episode.

Meanderer, I can't figure out that cartoon. I see the second man from the left is barefoot but I can't get it????

I just figured everyone had seen the iconic Beatles's picture/album cover that is behind the cartoon. Sorry Shirley, I forget, that sometimes we are like the Cantina scene in Star Wars.:)
 
Meanderer, where do you find all these hilarious cartoons? That last one!:D Romfty, glad you are not actually part of the A34, ha-ha. I was on it today and it was so busy [as usual.] Looking forward to watching Downton, don't worry Georgia, you will see it soon, and we won't do any 'spoilers' before then.
 
I Love Downton Abbey, and really looking forward to the new season. Dan Stevens who played Mary's husband and was killed off because he wanted to leave the show, is in two movies that are at theaters now. He is the star of the movie " The Guest" and he plays a serial killer, and he is getting really good reviews. He is also in the movie " A Walk Among The Tombstones" with Liam Neeson. Stevens portrays a drug dealer whose wife was killed, and he has black hair instead of blond and looks entirely different.
 
Now that I've got Roku, I'm keeping myself entertained until January by watching every single episode of Upstairs/Downstairs. I don't know how many episodes there are, but I'm only on #13...
