For many years I've heard people praise avocadoes.

I tried guacamole - didn't like it.

Couple weeks ago my Avocado-expert friend went grocery shopping with me. Got home, opened it, tried it.
Blech. I didn't like it and don't see what the big deal is. He finished it because I was going to throw it away.

Avocados aren't all alike.
I think Florida avocados taste like wet cardboard.. but California avocados have a great, somewhat nutty flavor.
Plus they need to be fully ripe to enjoy the full taste.

The first time my husband and I ate together I had made a club sandwich for him but on a crusty long bun. It had bacon, lettuce, tomato, turkey and avocado. Apparently he hated the avocado but didn’t want to tell me cause he was afraid of hurting my feelings. He doesn’t mind them now but not a huge fan like me. I love avocados and eat them often.

I think that the taste (or lack thereof) and texture of avocados don't appeal to everyone. I didn't really start enjoying them until I was well into adulthood. I love them now and often have a small one as part of my morning breakfast.

When I was a kid and we lived in southern California we had an avocado tree in our back yard but I don't recall ever eating any. My friends and I used to climb and play in the tree all the time, but I was never curious about the avocados themselves.

When I lived there, I wasn't far from the groves.. nobody seemed to object to me and other people picking them up off the ground. When they weren't in season, I was actually miffed at needing to pay 25 cents each for them at the grocery store. Times sure do change...

I really like avocados but I have problems to work out when they are ripe. Some are soft so you think they're ripe but they are black inside. Then others are labelled 'ready to eat' and they are quite hard. Any help appreciated as I do like them on toast. ☺

If they're black inside they're overly ripe, but still good.
If they're hard, put them in a closed paper bag til they soften up.

Oh, and also, if you have the option, avoid the ones with bright green smooth skin from Florida; get the ones with dark lumpy skin instead.. much better!!! In my opinion, the two don't even seem like the same product.
Can't thank you enough, will follow your suggestions because I'm fed up with throwing it away. I really hate waste when others have so little and I am blessed to be able to have avocado in the UK!

I have them a lot. I like them plain with a little salt or added to a salad. I have cut them in chunks and fried them like potatoes to eat with my eggs. They are a good snack for someone eating the Keto food plan. There are a lot of good recipes for them on Pinterest.

Didn't know you could fry - will try that. Thanks ☺

Not an 🥑 person, however, I will tolerate it in a California roll 🍱 and will eat a little guacamole when my daughter makes it.

i can see one not liking it if it were the prepackaged product.(guacamole) You kinda have to make it yourself to get the fresh taste, and adjust it to your taste, mild or spicy.

I have an avocado tree in my backyard but it doesn't produce. No loss, because I don't care for Florida avocados, which is a pity because they're so big. There's just not enough fat in them for good consistency and taste. I could eat a Hass every day if I'd let myself.
I think the term is cross-pollinate, or something like that. Otherwise you won't get fruit, because you don't have that option with only one tree.

I can't do avocadoes either.
