Depression and Anxiety medications. I am not getting any help with my medications.

If you don't mind, please tell me what medications work for you. I am struggling with depression and anxiety. It is so frustrating! I have tried Zoloft, Sertraline, Risperidone, Bupropion, and Lithium. None of these have provided relief. Thank you for your help! :)

I am on a very low dose of Cipralex (Escitalopram) -10 mg. It may not work for you. Zoloft made me feel like a suicidal zombie. I don't suffer anxiety.

Hopefully you will eventually hit on the right med, soon.

Wish I could be of more help.

None of the SSRIs worked for me as they made me more anxious and I can't take any of the other remaining antidepressants either because of adverse reactions. So, now I have been taking the supplement called 5 HTP at 200 mg. daily at night since January and after about 3 weeks I noticed a bettering of my mood; I am also prescribed Gabapentin for a mood stabilizer and anxiety. So, I feel better with those. If I forget to take any of them I notice a change in me and not for the good. I've been battling PTSD and severe depression and anxiety for over 20 years. I've tried so many antidepressants that were prescribed and they just don't work for me because of side effects.

Best wishes to you in finding what works for you. Please continue to work with your doctor to find what will help you. I do know how hard this struggle is but it can be better for you. IMO also meds are not the only thing a person needs--I needed to do some exercise which has been hard with health conditions but I manage to walk my dog once or twice a day and that helps, too. Eating what is best for me helps, too. Seeing a therapist can help too which I am thinking of getting back to. It helped me a few times before.

I do a bit of reading about gut heath and mental heath issues, I thankfully don’t suffer with mental health,
however most of my working life I was carer of disabled people / with mental heath issues who quite often had poor diets and drank way to much soft drinks mainly coke, I took allot of my clients shopping so I know what they bought .

I read the articles with interest due to liking fermented type foods like yoghurt / fermented veggies milk kefir and Kombucha which I make both myself ,I stated experimenting with the fermented veggies due to suffering for years with ongoing very painful attacks of diverticula disease ( bowel issues) on average I’d have an attack that would last
for more than a week about every 6 weeks or so.
Ive not had one attack in 5 years since changing my diet .
I will try to post a link for the fermenting site I follow all their statements regarding gut heath and how it can affect your general heath is referenced where the research came from

I take Buspar & Vistaril. I take my Buspar every day till my day off. Then I take just the Vistaril on my days off to get the Buspar re-started. I also keep extra Vistaril in my bag in case I feel an anxiety attack coming on.

The Buspar has to be re-started cuz it works but it quits. The break re-boots it again. You might wanna ask your doc.

Here’s a link for the site I follow ,you could spend all day reading articles on this very informative site ,I also have a couple of her books @RedSky4u
All her articles are backed up by research
The milk kefir grains are my best friends ..so cheap and easy to make ..and I got my grains for free
off gumtree ( I’m Australian ) and they multiply like rabbits 😂 😂

How has the 5 htp been working for you?
Do you like it?

No not usually however I tend to get a little anxious if in a new setting which is rare for that to happen now days
We took up ballroom dancing about 10 years ago, going to a new hall we’d feel like the old saying putting a new chicken in the chook house , your bound to get picked on as it often takes a while to be accepted into the dance clubs.
Seriously? Dance club snobs? That's sad.

If you are having problems with depression, etc., have you thought about seeking psychological help? If you live in mid-Missouri, there are several good hospitals and clinics in Columbia, Jeff City, and even Sedalia, which have facilities for helping with mental issues. Drugs might be fine for a physical illness, but I seriously doubt that they do anything but "mask" the effects of things like depression. Until you find the reason for your anxiety and depression, and take steps to resolve whatever is bothering you, you may be accomplishing little other than contributing to the drug companies profits. Heck, you might be better off just buying some wine or whiskey.

@Keesha It was working well but I have been trying another brand and it's not working as well. I am lowering the dose now to see if it will help. Feeling down compared, not sure what I will do now. I've thought about going back to the other brand of 5htp.

I’m going to respectfully disagree with you.
Many people seem to think all depression is circumstance or thought related and all you need to do is get to the root of the problem. Not all depression is problem related. There is hormone related depression, seasonal affective disorder, as well as genetic factors that affect moods and considering that alcohol is a depressant, it’s one of the worst things for people with depression.
Drugs do far more than mask the problem. Most pharma drugs help balance out brain chemistry

Don the only solution to getting rid of my anxiety would require quitting my job. Can't do that. And believe me...I do drink. LOL
