Does your life have a purpose?

I try each day to live out the encouragement from the Bible to "Live the Truth in Love." Not that I'm successful every day; some days I wanna say, "Stop the world, I want to get off!" But seriously, serving others (whether they are grateful or not), giving a smile to a hurting person, enjoying nature as I drive from patient to patient, or helping a patient to get through a painful procedure by asking what their favorite song is and singing it to help take their mind off what's going on all help me to live out my purpose.

@MarciKS, I hear your frustration: the monotony of doing the same thing, everyday, with little appreciation is very wearing. Can you visualize fixing the meals for a person you respect and love? This helps me sometimes, such as when (in my job as a visiting nurse) I have to go into situation that are less than pleasant (smells, lack of sanitation, etc)... to be able to think of what I'm doing as--for me, since my faith is Christianity-- something I'm doing for Jesus helps me to do the job with a more loving attitude.

It also helps to balance out that selflessness with something you enjoy (a little pampering) after work.... something to which you can look forward.

I hope you find the balance of service and self-care that will help you be fulfilled. ::hugs::

Beautifully said, CinnamonSugar. For all who choose to give their lives to Christ, life's purpose is crystal clear. Not always easy, not always fun, but we never have to question our raison d'etre.

It's easy to find God in a Christian environment. Not as easy when you're surrounded by unbelievers who aren't very nice people. I will try. Thanks for the encouragement. {{Hug}}

Maybe sometime they don't have a purpose....I do!! I was born to a family with a Mom, Dad, brother,s, many many Aunt's and Uncles...
And My Grandmother who came to America at 16 years old...She only spoke Italian....And most of the time when we were at her home
she was in the kitchen....She past away a month or so after I was out of the Hospital when I brought my son home....as an infant...
I couldn't see Grandma at that time in the Hospital....So my husband brought a picture of our son to the Hospital...
She couldn't understand the name of our son....It wasn't an Italian name....She was 80 years old when she passed...

But I'm sorry how our country is going....I don't want to go their, we don't do politics in this Forum....I'm happy about that....
Hope to God all of this goes away....Be Well, Everyone...♥

I guess another way to view this question is ‘where do you invest your time and effort’ and what are your priorities? Sometimes life can get overwhelming and we can get off track from our life’s purpose.

It seems only religion tells us there is a purpose to life unless someone gives it a purpose. It seems I am here to care for animals.
My question wasn’t religious based at all nor did I even consider religion when I asked it but apparently all religious people know their life’s purpose. I didn’t know that but I find the idea interesting. :)

The idea I got for this question came from reading self help books and according to the authors, they said that you instinctively know what your life purpose is because when you do it, your life feels right and on track. You feel an inner contentment.

I also feel that I am here to care for animals and my husband while looking after myself . That’s it.
When I focus my time and attention on these things, I become in harmony with my surroundings which brings me peace & joy and to me is the most important feeling to hold.

I think everyone’s purpose is as unique and personal as they are.

I don't even know how to answer this.

I don't feel as though I have any purpose here. I'm a lump of existence that cooks for sick people.
You sound like my brother that died....Most of life he was well....Then he didn't have a purpose, even though we loved him and
pampered him....He never married after a woman shut him down....Then my Mom died and he lived with my Dad....He became Mean..
He never did anything bad, just he talked to himself....When Dad died, I looked after him....He came to dinner every night, he wouldn't
live with us....He didn't ever be mean to me, cause I was his sister and fed him and tried to be his friend....I did love him....
He died all alone on an Easter Night after my other brother brought him home.......We found him the next morning....They said it was a Heart Attack....That was 10 years ago....I still go to the cemetary where Antny is buried with my parents...It hurts....He could've lived longer in my mind...
I know cause I'm only 6 years younger then him....

Marcik's, please get another job....don't stick with the one you "Hate"...It's not good for you rmind...I don't know you, but I had a brother
talked like you do....He even stopped working...Just staying with my Dad till my Dad died....I took care of my brother...He didn't want to live
anywhere but his House.....I had to make sure he ate, I had to go their every day cause he smoked and in my dreams I would think my brother
will burn the house down....So I would go see him every morning before I went to work....then go their for my lunch then 2 more times to
see if he was OK....He wouldn't live with us....We were going to put more room on the house....But he died 3 months after my Dad......

OK...That's enough....It gets old sometimes....I need to take care of my family....I can't breed...all the time....They told me it wasn't my fault...
But I feel that it was....I have to take that out of my mind.....So, Marciks….get with the program and get another job if you don't want your
job….You sound like a very nice person and probably very smart....Try it !!!! Or it's none of my business.....

Starting to think I am here to help the animals, no matter which, wild or domesticated. Have a chippy following my dog around, he is fun to have around. Friendly at a distance of course. Today heading to help out a bear with cubs, some anal idiot throwing rocks at her. Someone else got to them first..lol. Liked animals better most of the time.
Either way, life is good here.

It's not that I hate what I do. It just doesn't really leave much time for a life which is ok cuz I don't got one anyway. LOL!! I love feeding people. It's the only thing I know how to do. I don't think I could ever be happy in a job that didn't involve food & service. I've tried other things. They are even worse. I think sometimes it just feels like I'm of no use to anyone. Maybe that's in my head. Who knows? I talk to myself but that's what I do in my spare time when I'm not here talking to you guys. *Heh*

This breaks my heart too. All through my entire life if I had a job I didn’t like, I just quit, just like that and usually with no notice . 😳Lol

The other day when I asked you why you don’t quit, after I realized that if it weren’t for people like you, our world wouldn’t work the way it does.

My husband has excellent work ethics. He’d never quit a job without finding another first and giving notice. He’s been at the same job for over 25 years now which is something I can’t imagine. If I had a job I didn’t like I just quit and find one I did. This worked for me.

Anyway when I think of what you do and the difference you are making in others lives, I’m proud of you. You are providing a very necessary and vital service to others which according to many spiritual leaders, is what we should all be doing; being of service to others in some way.

I hope you find a hobby or some type of passion you absolutely love when you have time to yourself because you deserve it.

Somebody has to be there to do the jobs that few people want. Most people don't dream of a career that involves slaving over a hot stove, being b*****ed at & sporting a hairnet. It's hard damn work let me tell you. It's not for the meek at heart. And if you're a chick you better make sure you bring your balls to work with you. LOL!

Most people we get in to train don't stay. Once they see how much work it is...they usually do the no call/no show routine.

A career in food service isn't that much fun but it's rewarding when people like what you cooked. I enjoy being able to make someone's day & put a smile on their face by grilling up something they want. Even if it's the 500th one I've made today. LOL! I'm providing nourishment for sick people...their families & all the staff. I like knowing that I'm helping. Just today I overheard a visitor telling someone on the phone that "they have a pretty damn good cafeteria here." That put a smile on my face.

I found my purpose in life is to help other people. I volunteered at many different types of activities.
I helped prepare food in a local food bank for the homeless
I helped prepare taxes for low income clients
I flew over 100 missions with Angel Flight to take patients to far off destinations at no cost to them
I am a member of Civil Air Patrol performing search and rescue missions
Right now I work at a local hospice repairing their walkers, wheelchairs, etc.
And most of all, to love my wife and our children and grandchildren.
