This thread may get scrapped for being political, but a I’ll take the chance. If it violates the rules, please take it down. No hard feelings. I would just like to hear others’ opinions.

I have noticed that in MLB and the NBA that they have the “Black Lives Matter” logo painted on the field and court. I’m assuming that the NFL will follow suit. The NHL has not done so yet, but who knows, maybe they will under pressure.

I would like to know your opinion. Without being political, just yes or no and why. I would say ‘no’ because BLM is a 501 (c)(3) non profit organization and acts in a manner like a political activist organization. It’s my concern that if this is allowed to stand, we will soon be seeing other political markings in stadiums and arenas. Does it really need to be there? What’s the point? How is BLM associated with sports?
 

“Black Lives Matter” is also a slogan, a war cry, a rallying chant...a symbol if you will.

I don’t know how that might play into the situation. I’m not a sports fan and don’t follow anything so I can’t comment on the sports aspect.
 
Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures. This is a matter of taking advantage of momentum - and it's been a very, very long time coming.
Black Lives Matter is a slogan, not just a 501c. It's meant to wake people up to the realities of rampant racism in our country - and much of the world.

Edited to add: Racism has been alive and well in sports for decades, if not longer. Many high profile Black players have experienced racism up-close-and-personal.

Politics were foisted onto sports when the national anthem started being played before games post WWII, including color guards, flags, etc. (For that matter, what do those have to do with sports?)

Good question. The “Star Spangled Banner” was played before the start of baseball games during WWII. After the war was over, it just stuck and eventually carried over to other sports. Most countries do likewise.

BLM is a fine and decent movement, I do not want it spreading into every aspect of
my life.
There are nefarious groups in this nation that will seize any social movement, twist it
for their own purpose. distorting was intended to be a good and decent thing.

Me? I could give a rip less
Sports on TV has been a low priority for me these days

I do sometimes get a hankering for some Pabst Blue Ribbon and Gillett Blue Blades
But that goes back a ways

BLM, to me, means Bureau of Land Management

My black friends can't figger out what's all the fuss, except that horrible cop brutality thing

Whenever I do watch some sports, and the anthem is played, I get the urge to stand....and put my hand on my heart

BLM displayed in sports?
Why should that be different than any other issues

I'm of the opinion that the national anthem shouldn't be played at sporting events. That's where this all started.
What does sports have to do with the national anthem.
I'm against any political statement at sporting events.

Certainly worth a try though...

Don't think a politician deserves OUR Anthem; the head honcho has 'Hail to the Chief'
should be sufficient.
Perhaps, "Take the Money and Run,"
no, no, wait-better "Gypsies Tramps and Thieves."

I find those member’s thoughts that have posted on this matter interesting because I have often wondered if so many people think alike. Reading these posts, I would say evidently not.

I don’t know where this will lead or how it will end and probably no one else does either. People go to athletic events to relax and get away from all the crap they have had to contend with for how ever many days or weeks. They want to watch, cheer, jeer, have a beer and a dog and just do whatever for a few hours without being reminded of the tribulations that are going on.

A popular comment that is trending right now simplifies it further: “If a child hurts themselves in the playground and you bring them a bandaid, it doesn’t mean the other children don’t matter, it just means you’re focussing your efforts on the one that needs help.”
