For those with tinnitus....

Mine is also 24/7, mostly high pitched ringing. When I'm doing something, especially something I like, I don't notice it. When not, it's very loud. I am noticing hearing loss in ability to hear what people are saying. I hear them, but can't discern their words well. I say "What?" so much certain people are annoyed, like it's my fault or something.

My ex, who has severe tinnitus, didn't know that his own mother who is now 100 yrs. old, has had tinnitus since she was a child. She asked me one day what his sounds like, and described hers as metal train wheels screeching on metal train tracks. She just thought it was normal. His was similar, and started from being too close, too long, to very loud speakers at an event. He had also been a drummer in a band, and worked with power tools in his trade.

Mine keeps me in touch with Nature. A waterfall in R ear and birds chirping in L.
Probably started many years ago when I had a severe inner infection. Have some hearing loss but not due to that. Was working on selecting hearing aids before the COVID, but not proceeding until I don’t have to have masks hanging on my ears.

Mine is high pitched ringing which I'm 99% sure is from seeing too many bands without using ear protection. I remember two specific concerts which affected both my left ear and right ear were affected. I generally don't notice it unless I focus on it.

I have no idea. I never worked in a loud environment, I didn't attend loud concerts on a regular bases. I did go to two hours of really loud fireworks 45 years ago. I guess it's just "getting old".
This is my worry, as I, too, have never been exposed to loud environments/sounds, etc. So far I am free of any/all tinnitus signs/symptoms and I hope it stays that way.

mine not often but locasts singing at dusk-

Ringing constantly.
About 20 years or so ago.... before I realized what it was, and when it was just starting to manifest itself - I would ask ms gamboolgal if she could hear the ringing / white noise rushing sound?

Then we figured out it was Tinnitus and that there is no cure.

Made me be on top of my men to wear their hearing protection.

gamboolman....

I’m the same, always asking people to repeat themselves ! Especially if there is any other sound going on in the background like a TV, radio or people talking in a restaurant for instance, it can be embarrassing at times
