Mass Shooting At Neighborhood BBQ Outing

I think the purpose of the 2nd amendment was to keep the government from turning into a dictatorship and taking us down. Trouble is, the government has all kinds of ways to do that, that gun ownership cannot stop. I'd say more, but that could turn into a political discussion which we are not allowed to have on this site. In any case, I'm glad I do not live in the city. Around here, people keep their guns to themselves.

The problem is that they do - until they don't. Wish I had a dollar for every time I've heard or read a news report quoting people who couldn't believe XYZ violence occurred in their town, or that their neighbor perpetrated it. ("He was such a quiet guy - always said 'Good morning' and mostly kept to himself. How could that happen here?")

My brother was quiet and kept to himself. He was shy. As the old timers used to stay - still waters run deep. As in, you never know what someone like that is thinking.

We read and see these stories and get upset but keep in mind the types of people that find nothing wrong with it. Born in to ghetto areas with no money in the family and lack of father figures and drugs & crime everywhere and lousy schools. Try looking at life through a very young person's eyes. What do they see when they look out the window? The thought of doing jail time is beyond scary to me, not so with others that are doing thee shootings. Why? Because their would is not my world. They see their friends shot and killed, deal drugs, steal, pimp sex and so on. Gangs rule the neighborhoods. They see killers that have money from illegal activities and it comes natural when they take a look around that it is the way out of poverty. I am not shaking the liberal tree here but facts are facts. We have all seen and heard black civil leaders scream for an end of blacks killing blacks but it has very little effect as we witness on the daily news.

I agree with you. We need to learn to see through the eyes of those very different from us. Remember the war on drugs that one of the First Ladies touted? Well, it made no difference in the long run. Growth comes one divividual at a time. Those of us trying to make a difference need to keep that in mind. It's walk a mile in someone else's shoes. Even Jesus, who a lot of us learned a lot about in the Bible, said to love your brother and when asked who their brother was, he said everyone. He also said to love your neighbor as yourself. All of the major religions have this kind of advice. Do we learn it? It's up to us. Starting right now.

Like I said earlier, I hate guns. But other people see them differently then I do. And if someone comes to my door and shoots me, then I guess I'm dead. I faced that for 36 years after my brother died. I knew that if the boy I grew up loving could do it, anyone could.

Guns are flying off the shelves. Why? Self defense, because of the riots, the looting, and tying the hands of the police. When seconds count, the police are minutes, and sometimes hours away. We've got guns in our house. Varmint guns, deer rifles, shotguns.
