Air Fryers

After reading the mircowave thread,,, wondered how many have an Air Fryer?

Bachelor son has a small one.
Hubby's buddy got to bragging about the one his wife uses.

So with all the great hype ,, hubby wanted one for us.
Shopping trip was next step.
We came home with a Chefman 3.5 liter air fryer.

Have been making few items with it.
Think so far the boneless chicken thighs turned out the best.

Does anyone else have one?
Likes , dislikes about it?

I’ve got a 4-quart Ninja air fryer and use it often....chicken wings and shrimp are a couple of my favorite air fried meals...so quick to prepare & also super easy to clean.

I have one..not sure of the size. Its not small and not too large. I LOVE IT!!! I cook mostly wings in my air fryer. Have not ventured out to other dishes. I want to try salmon but hubby has his way of cooking salmon which is delicious....stove top and then put it in the oven.

Just happen to have this air fried meal in my pic gallery...DB033CDF-2F7A-48A3-9EFD-37B713E841B2.jpegthose are Ore-Ida frozen potatoes (relatively low cal/low carb) and the shrimp were frozen & pre-breaded....zero oil used but still everything turns out golden & crunchy (except for the shrimp tails which turned out black lol)....less than 10 minutes & it’s time to eat!

Frozen onion rings are good in the air fryer.

Hubby didn't care for home cut French Fries in it.(n)
Did you try soaking the raw potato fries in water for at least 20 mins, then rinsing and drying before air frying? This always works for me. I like chopping potatoes in chunks (not too big), water bath, drying and tossing them in herb oil I like, then fry. Yeah I know, the added oil. But I drain the potatoes well before I air fry so it's really not that much oil and still healthier than deep fry!

I was initially skeptical about air fryers, as I didn't think you could adequately brown items in it. So I started out with a small, inexpensive one, and was hooked...fast, rather tidy food preparation with minimal clean-up that is great for individual-sized portions! Soon I upgraded to a larger model with more capacity, plus bells and whistles...and I can make healthier French fries whenever I want!

Air fryers should not be confused with "air Friars," who will come to wherever you are. They are known to enjoy a good meal, too...

Me too! I now have.. umm.. I think 4 airfryers! I just bought a toaster oven/air fryer which I love. It has 2 mesh racks which really makes it easy to make larger items. And I can now also make the entree AND the side dish (veggies, fries, etc) at the same time. We even take the smaller air fryer with us when we go south for a few months each winter.

So what does air fry mean. Is that like a convection oven where the hot air heat is circulated with a fan?
Yes, exactly but I think hotter, not sure. My hubby's relatives in Europe have had them a long time and I think Austrailia did too. They didn't start to be popular here in my area until about 2-3 years ago. Now the new gadget to have is an InstaPot. And I tried, I really tried not to fall into that trap... didn't work.. I have of those too!

I was interested in what an air fryer does. So it basically circulates the hot air which makes cooking more evenly distributed. It can't get any hotter than the temperature that the oven is preheated to. It's like wind outdoors. If it's hot all that does is make you hotter faster but it doesn't change the temperature. And in winter it's called wind chill factor.

I spotted an Oster toaster oven that said convection on it. The price was only $60.

That's the lowest price I have spotted for a toaster oven. I'm really tempted to go for it.

I have a slow cooker. I used it quite a bit at first. I somehow got away from it.

I've been tempted but have heard people say it just isn't the same as deep frying. I don't fry often but I know when my son is here I would need a whole lot more than the biggest air fryer holds.

No, I don't think it's EXACTLY like deep frying, but it comes close enough for me when it's the healthier alternative!

We use ours a lot because need for almost no oil for frying< equals healthier food prep . For fries we soak the potatoes in water but add ice cubes since that breaks down the fiber and leaves the outside crispy the inside soft like fast food places make. Haven't tried the seasoned oil but like the idea, will try that next time.

One thing I discovered was around the heating coil on top a the air circulation can build up oil or grease deposits. About every 3rd. use I wipe that area clean with a soft paper towel.

Good recommendation about cleaning out the TOP once in a while!

Have one as well......love it......medium size.
Not sure how similar different brands are, .........mine is.....Multi Function Air Cooker by Kuraidori.

Bought one earlier this year.

Because most of my "cooking" is reheating it is in constant use, not just for frying (which is actually unusual) but grilling (broiling to you!); baking, roasting. The only thing i now do in a normal oven is big pizzas!

Ideal if you have some dusabilities.

You don't have to bend to lift things out and if you have failing vision you can get up close and personal with the controls, perhaps with a magnifier.

They also use less energy.

If it broke today I'd have Amazon bring a new one tomorrow!

I have one I bought, Big Boss, it works fine multiple layers at the same time. It heats using light and a rather strong fan. Very pleased with it. Less power use and much quicker to cool off and clean.
