When dipping into a delicious piping hot bowl of soup, chili, or any other liquid-like food, spoon the food out from around the rim of the bowl to start, because the food will be cooler.

When whipping cream, start in the centre and set the speed to slow until the cream begins to thicken, then you can start working the beaters around the perimeter of the mixing bowl, and to help avoid splattering, set a tea-towel over the bowl to act as a shield.

Oh and yes, don't spin the beaters until you have washed them.
