National Lampoon

OMG. I was going to post it but maybe somebody would complain that it would be too provocative.

Yes, the cover was a bit "naughty", wasn't it?

The highlight of my year as yearbook editor was when the local League of Decency published a picture from our yearbook (I was in the picture, of course) and condemned it as a "serious decline in public morals" and "everything that was wrong with schools today". I was soooo proud!

I used to enjoy NL. When I was a senior in high school the founders were giving a talk at Stanford, about 15 miles from where we lived. I joined a number of people from my physics/computer group and went to the talk with them. Some of our group hadn't really seen NL before and weren't aware of it's provocative content. The talk also included them reading some of the stories they had written and one of the women in our group turned increasingly deep shades of red as the story progressed.

I can still remember several passages from some of their stories because of the wonderful visuals they form in my mind.

though a little before my time (supposed to be 63, i think?), "Animal House" is probably my Lampoon favorite. it came out on cable right about the time dad finally broke down and got it. we had to remind him that this was only a movie:rolleyes:, but also acknowledge that he PAID for some of those antics. what can i say?

though the REAL "vacation for me was in about 64, i can totally relate to the FIRST "vacation" movie. dad, his parents and us 3 kids (me/oldest maybe 12) in a massive green Ford station wagon. NO AC! heading from outside Philly to Florida. at that time none of THE family attraction even built. our car problem was a flat tire on The Tamiami Trail (MILES crossing the state from Miami to Tampa... times when literally not another car for as far as you could see.

a MUST at the holidays, "Christmas Vacation!
