Are you the type of person who needs everything in order before leaving on a vacation?

I've always been this type of person. These past two weeks I have made a next to an impossible list of things I must accomplish before I leave on Friday for our vacation that my daughter and family had planned for months. We are to go to North Carolina to a home my son in law rented for a week in Belhaven. We are going to meet them the day before at their home in VA and then follow them down the next day. We have planned a lot of fishing, hiking and other activities.
I am a bit nervous about the virus but we will be by ourselves most of the time. I've packed cleaning supplies, masks and gloves and we will do the cooking at the house. I also will bring bedding and towels from home even though it is provided.
These past two weeks, I've done some major yard work. Wednesday I plan to clean the house, change the bed and the last minute do the bathrooms and probably mop my way out of the house. lol
I can't seem to enjoy myself if I know my home is a mess.
I have a friend who can just pick up and leave at a moments notice.
What do you do before vacation?

With you on this @Ruth n Jersey. When I did go away and lived on my own I would clean the flat meticulously. I would do this so I came back to a clean home - ok there might have been a bit of dust that had accumulated but in general it was clean including change of bed as you refer to. Also I would pack my suitcase at least two weeks before and go over and over to make sure I had everything. We are all different. Some people , like my sister, can pack up and go . That to me is stressful. I need to get organised and make sure I have everything I need. I had to laugh one year 'cos as I packed my case from my return with my brother from Vienna and my electric tooth brush decided to start to 'go off' (whirr). Don't want to image what security would have made of that. Fortunately I took it out of the luggage case prior to the flight and put it in my hand luggage and secured it so nothing could press the 'button' to set it off. Never had to think of these things before but on a brighter note 'literally' I would prefer it to a manual toothbrush as it makes my teeth look 'brighter'. Always need to be organised. ☺

As with most everything, I'm somewhat laid back. I would never leave my house a mess, but I wouldn't obsess about sheets, clean dishes left in the dishwasher, or all the laundry finished.

My bathrooms and kitchen would be immaculate; trash gone, refrigerator cleaned out, house vacuumed and dusted. I would not worry about dusting the day of departure and my bags would be packed ahead, but only by 1 or 2 days.

Before we going on a vacation, we make a list of things we are taking, things we need to shut off in our apartment before leaving, printed out hotel, rental car and any other reservations we made. We do clean the inside of our apartment, but not immaculately.

We won't be taking any kind of vacation until next summer and that's only if this darn virus thing settles down enough for us to go.

Easier with an apt than used to be with house. Neat & orderly, fridge cleared of anything that might spoil, laundry caught up, trash out, arrangements made for mail & newspaper, valuables stowed out of sight if at all possible, things laid out in the spare BR for final packing decisions. Usually boarded the cat a day ahead.
Have to say the topic brought back a very painful memory. On 9/11/2001All that was done in preparation to leave on a trip to So. Padre Island on 9/12, except boarding the cat. I got up and turned on the radio as usual...and Life Stopped. All plans abandoned. Trying to reach son & his family in DC...
Everyone has their own 9/11stories.

I am, and have to be (by far), one of the pickiest, most anal homemakers around!

I refuse to go to bed with dirty dishes in the sink, and loathe unfolded laundry sitting around.

Floors need washed twice weekly (bathroom floors get washed daily), and everything else has to be in order.

Toilets scrubbed, bathtub clean, and no dirty laundry in the laundry room.

Beds made, etc, etc.

Always makes one feel so good about opening the door and walking into a clean, fresh, organized home after being away, because I always feel that my life is somewhat in a turmoil after being away for any length of time.

Additionally, interior of vehicle needs to be spotless when we're making a trip or driving somewhere. Failing that, the windows need to be spotless.

I like to have the car looked over at the garage, pay the bills, notify the credit card company that I'll be traveling and spending, eat or toss everything in the refrigerator, double-check that I've unplugged and turned things off, locked the doors and windows, then hit the road.

My biggest quirk about a road trip is getting an early predawn start as though I was heading out across the prairie in a covered wagon. It's a holdover from when I was a kid traveling with my parents. I can't tell you how many times I've reached my destination too early to check-in or pick up the keys because I wasn't willing to start out at a more reasonable time.

Just take the basic precautions which are pretty much second nature by now and have fun!!!

Those are big ones for me, too!

It’s all neat & tidy when we leave. Not as much as it used to be. Sheets & towels are done the day before, not the morning of. DH has a long list, it all gets checked off. I decided I need to relax more before going away to relax.

There’s not many places to go this year.

If and when I can go on vacation again; I would only make sure food (that could spoil) is eaten up. Just check my packing to make sure I haven't forgotten anything. Maybe next year we can go on vacation. Maybe Vancouver, BC or back to Halifax, NS to visit aging Aunt but only it the virus has been stopped.
