This morning after a stressful visit at the hospital , I decided to cheer myself up by buying a fresh cream chocolate éclair from the bakers shop..a place where I've bought them often in the past..

I was stunned when the server told me they don't sell any fresh cream cakes now... WhhaaaaT? I say incredulously ??..whaddya mean... ?.. no we haven't sold them in over a year!! This is one of the biggest if not THE biggest chain of bakers shops in the south East of England.

I said but that's like a greengrocers saying they only sell frozen Veg... What on earth can be happening?...and so ultimately I didn't get my Éclair..I have to make do with a picture of it..

So my question to you all is...have you come across anything like this with stores where you live ?

During time I have spent in England, it was the bakery shops that I enjoyed the most for British food. However, I never saw those custard tarts that Lionel always ate in the series "As Time Goes By". :)

I used to like to stop by a bakery and get the Jamaican beef patties (like ground beef stuffed into a pastry shell). As for the custard tarts, are they the same as the Portugese tarts?
