How horrible is this?....makes me sick to my stomach......what a tragic waste of innocent animal lives :(

The gruesome discovery of more than 5,000 dead pets at a Chinese shipping depot has reportedly sparked an investigation.
According to a new CBS News report, thousands of rabbits, guinea pigs, cats and dogs went without food and water for a week before they were found inside plastic or metal cages, which were also wrapped in cardboard boxes with breathing holes, at the Dongxing Logistics station in Henan’s Luohe city.

“It was obvious they died of suffocation, dehydration and starvation,” said Hua, who does not use her real name to keep attention on the animals instead of her personally.
She described the scene as a “living hell,” adding that the “the entire place reeks of rotting bodies.”
Hua speculated the animals were likely purchased online as pets but were left stranded at the logistics depot because of a delayed collection.

“Miscommunication inside the shipping company and the inconsistency of the implementation of shipping regulations directly led to the tragedy,” Hua told CBS.
“Of course, both buyers and sellers bear the responsibility, too.”
Authorities are currently investigating the incident and have since arranged for the thousands of dead animals to be collected, disinfected and buried.

on the way to wet markets perhaps. they eat dogs, cats, bats... all sorts of animals. some say the wet markets are where the corona virus came from.
Who is they? Because lots of cultures, other than Chinese, eat lots of different animals Including cats-Australia, dogs-Vietnam, spiders-Africa, guinea pigs-Mexico and while I have not googled it I am sure bats are eaten in several places worldwide.

The good old USA does not have a great track record as far as animals are concerned. While we don’t seem to have “wet markets” we do have a disgusting number of nasty slaughter houses and animal farms. Cows, chickens, turkeys, pigs etc.

There are still plenty of kill animal shelters. There are still plenty of puppy mills. There are still plenty of feral cat colonies. There are still plenty of animals dying at the side of the road.

I have no ideal where the virus came from and, at this point in time, neither does anyone else for sure. Everything is speculation, including your comment that the animals might have been on the way to “wet markets”.

If you want to point a finger at some place for animal cruelty, point it at the USA. What happened is tragic and not unheard of here.
