The last of my tomatoes are ripening nicely.

I usually pick the last of the tomatoes once the vines start to die off. I Keep only the ones that are blemish free, put them on newspaper in our garagelast of tomatoes.JPG.
They aren't as good as the ones we had in the middle of summer but certainly are better than the ones in the store.
I've made BLTs and Tacos with some. There are more on the way.

Ruth,
My wife grows tomato's as well and loves them. They have predicted a frost tonight in Ohio so she has picked all the tomato's off the vines. She puts 6 tomato's and 1 banana in each brown paper bag and then puts them in a dry dark place like the garage closet. That is how she ripens the green tomato's, she says it works well, so I thought I would share.

Just curious, what is the purpose of the banana @needshave?

I have absolutely no idea. A friend of hers that owns a fruit farm, suggested she do that and she has followed that suggestion for several years. I know I get a lot of banana muffins as a result, from that standpoint....It's all good.

As bananas ripen, they give off ethylene gas which ripen the tomatoes.
