Question For All New or Close to New Vehicle Owners

I have a 2018 Titan truck and it has on the drivers side a kill button for the passenger side window. Why in the world is that there? What purpose does it serve? Does anyone else have this feature in their vehicle?

My husbands Toyota Tundra has that feature.

Dear husbands truck can lock all windows in the vehicle.

He likes the feature, because on lock, he doesn't have to worry about lowering any other windows in the vehicle (accidentally) when all he wants is his drivers side window lowered. No looking for the right button to operate.

Scenario here, but say you had a passenger in the front who was younger and felt the need to play with the buttons, having a drivers side master locking feature eliminates that.

Also do think many new vehicles are equipped with frivolous features to bolster the interest in the buyer. Sort of like, "wow, does this vehicle ever come with a lot of features".

"The more the merrier" seems to be the aim these days.

We never had em. We was lucky we weren't stupid enough to mess with it or we'da been skinned on the road.
LOL!

I remember a family vacation we did, driving through Vancouver BC, and baby brother with his arm out the car window. I don't know how many times my mom and dad had to tell him to get his arm inside.

Having grown up in a small town, arms out the window were the norm, bit in the big city it's a good way to get it ripped off by a passing vehicle.

Having locking windows back in the day would have prevented baby brother from risking limb.

Since my car is 20 years old, and I am not traveling much anymore so I am not renting new cars, I would probably be completely lost in a brand new car with all the new doodads and stuff. :geek:

I would like one of those little screens with the rear view camera. At least then I could decide ahead of time whether I want to run that person over or not when backing up. o_O

They say planning is everything. LOL!

The window in the up position? Besides the animals should be secured like kids.
Dogs like to stick their head out the window. I always raised the window so he could only stick his head out, then lock it so he couldn't unintentionally lower the window by hitting the switch with his paw.

My last two purchases I stipulated minimum technology because I don't need it so I won't pay for it. If you want a backup camera you can but them and have them installed. Next thing is cameras for the front as well. I do like my back up camera. I think they are mandatory on all vehicles now.

I should look into getting a third party backup camera and display. That, to me, would be a real safety feature.

Thanks...

Our car is 6 months old and has all the modern bells and whistles one button to lock all doors another to lock all widows for the reason most posters have already mentioned .

I had a 1985 Toyota cresida that had very similar features I’d use the window locks to stop the kids messing about putting the windows up and down for fun while traveling .

Im sure our new Nissan Qashqai has what was called child proof locks on the back doors to stop kids opening doors and falling out ...then again my old Toyota had that safety feature way back then.

I like the safety camera on the Nissan it enables you to back with safety, to day while I was out I went to back and as soon as I put it into reverse it beeped / showed me on our nice size screen a postman riding his bike behind me. The car beeps if you are to close to something in front ( it has front camera ) as well

One of our previous cars that we traded in on our new Nissan had cameras back and front
(Hubs fitted them) with a nice size screen in the cab he fitted them because it made it easy to back the caravan at the time the parts cost around $700 for good quality components

We have one strange feature. Something makes all the windows, including the sunroof, open. I forget how it’s done and can’t really think of a good reason for it.

The backup cameras are the very best invention ever.

I have the child-proofing button feature, too. Sometimes I accidentally trigger it. Hilarity ensues when my passenger finds themselves locked in. Isn't unwanted technology wonderful?!

I have a 2018 Chevy Equinox and I just can't get used to the back-up camera, I still turn my head to check. I like that I have control of all the locks on the vehicle and the side mirrors like up a bit of red on the side to show someone is beside you before you pass lanes as it helps to get rid of the blind spot. Being short this was the only vehicle I tried that I was actually comfortable in. I tried Honda Civic, Hyundai, Kia and several others. I needed a big car as hubby and sons are all over 6 feet.

My 2020 Kia Soul has all the goodies and safety features on it. The one feature I’d like to throw out the window it’s the engine stops when I stop. There is a button to turn it off, but I have to remember to do it every time I shut the car off.
