Thousands of Swedes Are Getting Microchips Implanted Into Their Bodies, Would You Get One?

I'm not sure, but I think the wife must have had me chipped during my last surgery, because she seems to know what I've been doing and where I been most of the time! But absolutely not, would I agree to have a chip implanted.

My dog is micro chipped, but I am not. Do not ever plan on it either.
The dog I have now is the first one that was ever microchipped, and that's only because the breeder chipped him before we took him home. I'm okay with it, but for all of my life I just had ID tags on their collars and felt comfortable with that. True, they can lose their collar somewhere, but I try to think positive, optimist you know. ;)

Well, Marley is a rescue, SeaBreeze and I do think they routinely chip them at the shelters now. With breeders perhaps it's a choice. My concern is this; Marley was chipped in Kentucky and when it was thought she wasn't adoptable, (oh so wrong), she was shipped to a kill shelter here in Jersey and red tagged for euthanasia. Fortunately an outfit called, Orphaned Pets, Inc. visits these kill shelters regularly and immediately grabbed her. She was fostered briefly and we found her on line. What a sweet gift from God she is. But, she does have a tendency on occasion to roam away and if she slipped her collar, was found and scanned, she'd wind up back in Kentucky, I fear. Of course, they'd eventually track her back to us, but she is very sensitive and I'd never want to go through all that. Somehow there should be a way to update the chip I would think via technology.

If someone wanted to steal your identity, they steal your microchip and dispose of your body where it is never found.

So happy to know that Marley was not put down, thank goodness for Orphaned Pets! You are very kind for giving this sweet girl a good loving forever home with you, that is admirable. I don't know about changing the info on a microchip, but here's a site with some advice if you know the company of the chip....hope this helps. I feel good that there are animal lovers like you out there, thanks and hugs for Marley.

Thank you SeaBreeze. I just looked at these sites and my Vet uses one of them as I saw something on her chart about it. Hugs.

Take her to the vet or humane society, they scan the chip and tell you the company, then you can call or email and get the owner information updated.

I read years ago that this was coming. I imagine the implants could and would be used for sinister purposes. It provides a sure fire method of tracking people. their whereabouts and behaviors. No thanks.

No. I wouldn't allow anyone to tattoo numbers on my arm, either.
