Being in love makes you sick

"We've all experienced a little bit of this no doubt, and maybe we can still remember a little of what it was like" (?).

Love makes a man, (or woman!), many things, and apparently one of them is sick in some ways.

My late father used to say when he first met my mother and they started dating, when he was just eighteen and she was still fifteen, he could no longer hit anything when he tried to control the rabbit population on his father's farm. Rabbit meat was a very useful source of protein and even income for the farm as they could readily be sold in the local town on market days, especially when meat rationing was on during and after WWII. Myy father couldn't tolerate this for long, so by force of will he managed to overcome the problem, and started shooting straight again.

Here is a website to back up what is believed to be a real illness, or something that does happen with symtoms to prove it:

You may think very clearly, but you can’t think about anything but him or her. It’s the dopamine that gives you that obsessive focus. Romantic love is an obsession. You can’t stop thinking about the person. But you’re thinking of every detail of them: what he said, how she moved, what he meant by that. You’re focused — just not on work or your to-do list. Not surprisingly, some of us actually chase lovesickness. “Probably about 6 to 10 percent of the population is born with poorly functioning dopamine receptors,” says Ware. To them, everything feels a little black and white blah until they are shot with cupid’s arrow and get that reward cascade cocktail of neurotransmitters pumping. Then they think, “Wowsa! Life is in color!” And they continue to chase that feeling. Problem is, nature didn’t expect for us to spend that long in the pursuit period. Nature expects us to settle down and procreate."

Well, "being in love" with looks only, like my first/second marriage. I got smart for marriage number three..........fell in love with the entire person!
Very smart work, but it is hard to rationalise what makes the "spark" you do need between you, in order to get anywhere, or make it all worthwhile (?)

"God bless you...you make me feel brand new..." That's what falling in love can do. I've been in a lot of relationships. I've known the feeling of being in love a number of times. Only one guy courted me, and that brought the rush of new love and the friendship that was able to begin because of it. None of my love relationships made me sick. I worried and fretted and eventually ended some of them when they got too bad. But ah, the new rush...of the next one.

Percy Sledge agrees.

This song by Annie Lennox sums things up too:

I thought the lyrics to the song above might stimulate some interest, especially the wonderful words highlighted in yellow :)(?)

Give me two strong arms
To protect myself
Give me so much love
That I forget myself
I need to swing from limb to limb
To relieve this mess I'm in
'Cause when depression starts to win
I need to be right by your side

No one seems to touch me
In the way you do
Nothing seems to hurt me
When I'm close to you
I'm so full of desire
When you set my head on fire
I need to be right by your side

Every single one of us needs
Love, love, love

Everybody needs to give and receive love
Every single day can drag us
Down, down, down
But there's nothing left to fear
When love gets into town

I'm so full of desire
When you set my head on fire
I need to be right by your side
