Do you get a good night's sleep?

I try to go to bed at the same time everyday. If I don't, I get all discombobulated. I have to take my BP everyday, when I don't get a goodnight's sleep; it's a lot higher the next day. I don't like taking naps, because then I'm awake at night. And there's nothing better to wake up after a goodnight's sleep. Do you get a good night's sleep?

The quality of my sleep is hit-and-miss.

Take last night for instance, I was up all night, just couldn't sleep, but boy, what a great feeling it is when I can go to sleep at a relatively good time of night (9:30 - 10:30 pm respectively), and wake in the morning feeling refreshed and alive.

Sadly, good nights in bed are few and far between for me, and age doesn't help. In my mind I should still be able to accomplish a full-night in bed at the same level and quality I enjoyed when I was a teen and in my 20's, but such is not the case anymore.

As for napping, I do occasionally when I just cannot function any longer, but overall I do find I sleep better if I stay awake through the day and tire myself out doing things, hence why I hate the winter season so much, because I'm nowhere near as active throughout the winter months as I am once spring rolls around.

Most nights I get a good 7 or 8 hours. It takes me a few minutes to find the right "spot", then the next thing I know, it's early morning, and I need to hop out of bed for a "pit stop"....then, back under the sheets for a bit, to contemplate what I need to do today. A few years ago, I started sipping a small shot of flavored Vodka, about 9PM, and that usually has my eyes drooping by 10PM, and I'm ready for bed. Many evenings, I flop down in the recliner after Supper, and unless there is something really good on TV (a rarity), I get another good nap.

No, I did not. I was very restless and tossed and turned most of the night. I go to sleep very late as I read till I cannot keep my eyes open any longer. I usually average 4 to 5 hours per night as I cat nap during the day. Last night was not the usual and as a result I overslept this morning.

Same here, 4-5 hours, and if I can see those 4-5 hours through without waking, I wake feeling alive, refreshed, and ready to face the day, but if I wake so much as once during that time, I feel as though I'm wading through waist-deep concrete all day.

My wife can, sometimes, have a very rough time getting to sleep. She will lay in bed awake, or tossing/turning, for awhile. If she takes a 1/4 pill of Unisom or 1/2 pill of Motrin, 99% of the time, after a little while, it will most definitely be "lights out" for her.

As for me, I generally don't have a problem going to sleep, but have to get up a couple of times at night to hit the bathroom. I read that Seniors shouldn't drink anything after 8PM. That sure isn't us!

My SIL (1/2 brother's wife) told me that she only needs 4 hours of sleep at night. Just how can someone function on only that amount of sleep??? My 1/2 brother told me that he falls asleep in his recliner, watching tv, almost every night. That's exactly what my MIL did.
Wife and I never/ever go to bed at separate times.

I for one live off 4-5 hours sleep a night and I do it consistently, night after night. Have so for years.

In an entire year I can count on one hand how many times I enjoy 6-7 hours sleep.

Little trivia for you, it's well known that Jay Leno, only get's 4-5 hours of sleep a night.

The people I will never understand are those who go to bed at say 10:00 at night, and sleep until 10:00 am the next day.

So do I. I get up at 5 or 5:30, sit quietly with my cup of coffee and contemplate one thing or another, feeling at peace with the world.
I hate waking up and seeing I've only slept on or 2 hours and then try to get back to sleep again.

I don't sleep well at all. I can't seem to turn my mind off. I've tried listening to soft music and sounds of nature and after awhile it begins to irritate me rather than get me to sleep.
Over the counter sleep medications make me feel drowsy in the morning.
Many people have a problem with Ambien but it works for me. 1/2 tablet does the trick. It gets me to sleep quickly and if I do wake up I have no problem getting back to sleep.
I think it gets a bad rap because if taken in high doses people sleep walk, eat and do all sorts of things.
I'm probably hooked on it now but at my age I don't care. Its worth a good nights sleep.
I'm all for comfort these days.

I think it's the right thing to do, because what I find about tossing, turning, and fretting for sometimes hours at a time, that in itself proves to be more tiring for me than just saying to heck with it and getting up.

That's my biggest problem, too... shutting my brain off.

I never get a good nights sleep. Normally I get to bed at 2am then up at 6-7. But I'm up several times a night and returning to sleep is always an issue. Very light sleeper and every ambulance, fire truck, owl, whatever, has me up. I play white music to help and it does sometimes. I have found my best sleep is on a cruise ship.

I think I must sleep on and off. The problem is that I like to listen to the radio throughout the night with the earphone in one ear and change it to the other ear when I turn over. The World Service is great and there is a Times news station that my friend recommended and also phone ins. There is also a station for plays etc. I do doze off because I am aware that I miss some of what I was originally listening to. I just find it so interesting and I usually have the news update before the following morning. I would miss my radio more than the TV. I just accept that I'm more of a night person. I never had the radio on before but I had many many nights where my head would be spinning with worry about work the following day or other problems and now with the radio on (and retired) my mind is focused on the radio items and it stops me thinking about any other issue in my life. I also try not to be fixed on a 'getting up time' or beat myself up if it's a different time from what other people might feel is respectable. I go with what I feel comfortable with. I've learned that everything that needs to be done gets done.

I have major problems falling asleep, no matter what time I go to bed I typically lie there 2 - 3 hours before falling asleep. I wake up early and feel groggy and not very rested. The doctor gave me sleeping pills once, but I felt like a zombie all day long, so that was no help. I used to envy my husband, he literally fell asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow and slept peacefully all night long...

Actually medical professionals will tell you that if you cannot fall back to sleep with 10 or 15 minutes, it is better to get up and keep yourself busy until you are tired. Of course, if you work, you have to see it through, which I have done in the past.

For the past couple of days,I've been able to sleep through the night
I think its because of the unseasonable warm weather we've had here in WNY,the long walks I've been taking as well.I usually go to bed around midnight during the week,Sat&Sun around 11
I don't know if this pattern will continue once the temps are back to normal-50 only time will tell

To me, a good night's sleep is defined as one where I don't have to go to the bathroom more than three times, and I am able to fall asleep fairly quickly after crawling back under the sheets. This happens about once every three nights.

For the rest of the nights, various aches and pains, a stuffy nose, heartburn, hot flashes (from Lupron), or more than three trips to the bathroom all conspire to disrupt a good night. Then there are those nights when the brain wants to drag up old BS for another review.
