Ramie Fabric

I found these two tops in a box of fabrics. I had never heard of ramie before. They fabric is exceptionally heavy - I was surprised by the weight when I picked them up. They could probably use a washing. The care instructions on the tag say "machine wash separately - cold - tumble dry low ". At the laundromat, I just put my quarters in and press start. When it's done and I pull out the clothes, they always feel warm. Anyone else ever dealt with ramie fabric items?

Yes, it's quite common here in Britain. Wash it on a delicate cycle if there is one.

"Ramie is a flowering plant in the nettle family Urticaceae, native to eastern Asia".

I have the exact sweater for years now, and wear it according to my weight, whether it fits or is too snug....always washed it in regular cycles of cold water....it has lasted forever probably cuz I never put it in the dryer.....I must've removed the label cuz it was irritating my skin....
never heard of Ramie though...

You can use a weakened solution of Bleach on it to remove yellowing

I’ve had a couple sweaters made with ramie. Tends to give warmth with a ‘cotton’ feel rather than a scratchy ‘wooly’ feel. Also doesn’t make you feel overheated when you come inside from the cold
