Little boys Smoke Rifles (1960's/70's)

MarkinPhx's, started thread topic - "What scents are locked away in your mind from your childhood", really stirred my memory for all things vintage/retro

Anyhow, here is another toy my baby brother had. No darts, no corks, no plastic bullets or anything like that, just a pop rifle that made a loud bang and some smoke would emit out the barrel.

There wasn't a little boy around that I knew of back in the day that didn't own one of these!

My two younger brothers had rifles that looked like that but shot out corks. What they quickly discovered was that dried China Berries from a tree in our back yard fit their rifles perfectly, traveled much further and actually had a little sting to them. They had an unlimited supply of ammunition and as the older brother, I had to admonish them more than once to not get carried away.
Fortunately, their rifles did not hold up that long and they were left with the Davy Crockett caps that came with them. They had a ball for awhile.

Love the story, Pecos!

It reminds me of the boys (my baby brother and his friends) cutting off a chunk of old garden hose about a foot in length, and using the hose as a blow gun. Their ammunition of choice was mountain ash tree berries!

Let me tell you, there was mountain ash berries everywhere!
 
I think I had both the smoke gun and later the BB gun of
course...caught hell once from some old lady about shooting it,
and got visit from town cop, shot at his car while he was leaving!!!! Those were the days!!!! :LOL:
