For Those of You Who Wear Glasses With Your Mask

Do your glasses fog up with your mask? Well so do mine and especially when it's humid like today. Someone on FB suggested I put shaving cream on them and I said "well how will I be able to see with shaving cream on my glasses? That's besides the point though. I tried it today. I used some gel shaving cream and it worked. Just rubbed on a tiny bit and wiped them off then went outside and no fogging! So, try it if you wish, it worked for me.

Even the paper masks without a metal strip, won't fog up, if pushed under the frame of your glasses. At least, it works for me :)
I have the paper masks too and my glasses still fog up because I don't have big glasses I have the smaller type but thank you.

@Ruthanne, Ronni posted that suggestion awhile back and I've still been using the shaving cream on my sunglasses which have a glass lens, works well, but needs to be re-applied every couple of days to keep working for me. What kind of lenses do your glasses have? I haven't tried the shaving cream on my bifocals because they have some kind of plastic lens and I didn't want to damage it.

Also, it works better with some masks more than others I've found. @Pinky, I'll try your suggestion about putting the mask under the glasses, thanks.

I have transition near, far and close. They have the lenses that get darker outside, too. Mine are plastic, too. I was concerned it might hurt them but it did not, worked very well. Really have to wipe that shaving cream off though! It's gooey. :D

I was grousing about that when I was visiting my doctor early in the pandemic. She suggested pinching the wire strip, like suggested, and then pushing the upper part of mask so they rest underneath the bottom of my frames. Seems to work OK
If you have the larger glasses it works but I have small glasses and the mask won't reach up that far.

Yeah, it depends on the shape of your glasses. The shave cream trick works for me, too. I have to put on my half-lens glasses when I go shopping so I can read the fine print of the ingredient/nutrition labels.
Yes, it does depend on the shape. Glad it works for you, too. I was told about it months ago and just remembered to do it today....talk about old age setting in.

There’s no shave cream in the house.

I did buy an expensive commercial product that did help a little bit. Now that the weather is getting cold, I’ll have the fogging because of that too.

I used to go scuba diving a lot and to defog your mask you spit on the inside lens, rub that around really good, dip your mask in the water and then shake out the excess moisture. I actually tried that with my glasses. Didn't work so well and left annoying water spots on them.

Desperate times... :p

Now how do we minimize the itch factor? I have several masks and they all itch to one degree or another. The very worst is those N-95's which itch like crazy.

I ordered some shave cream from Amazon and was lucky enough to find a single can of it for less than $3.

I would have made at least 70- 80 fabric masks 😷 for my family as well as for us.

We had to go to Adelaide for a doctors appointment a few days ago ( bit hard to have blood tests / skin checks over a phone appointment ) :) As we were going into a shopping centre where we always get our scripts and a few shoppers infected with COVID had been ( in the last week ) we put our masks on each time we got out of the car .

Hubs wears glasses all the time he didn’t have an issue with fogging up his glasses with his mask on ..just wondering if it’s the fabric masks as well as the design that make a difference ? I make them with three layers of fabric including a layer of waterproof fabric.

Today its going to be 40+c so I’m going to be in our nice AC home making a few more masks to maybe donate them to a worthy charity
(I’ve got heaps cut out ready to sew )

I bought some masks that made my face itch too. So I bought some other ones and they didn't make my face itch and those were the cloth ones and a different kind of paper ones but it's hard to know before you buy them so that can be a problem I agree. Maybe a face moisturizer could help that.

I usually just itch my face right through the mask or pull it up or down and itch my face.

At least where I live you can't walk into your doc's office wearing an "outside mask". You're stopped at the entrance and someone extends a mask out to you with a pair of tongs.
Nice idea to donate your home-made masks.

My experience has been that both the face cloths and the paper ones can fog up the glasses.
