If Susie is 3 years older than Kevin, who is...................

debodun posted a tread about the ASVAB ( a military IQ test). I took it and brought back memories:

"Michelle is 7 years older than her sister Joan, and Joan is 3 years younger than their brother Ryan. If the sum of their ages is 64, how old is Joan?"

I could never figure those types of math problems out. I remember how frustrating they were, as I looked at that tan piece of "math" paper. Remember it had chunks of wood imbedded in the paper. Also I remember the white paper with the blue lines for writing, it smelled like a chemical factory.

I took a class in college called "A Cultural Approach to Mathematics" just to get my math requirement out of the way, because math is my greatest challenge. All we did was work puzzles and I had a terrible time with them.

Y'know, a train leaves New York city at 2 p.m. going 55 miles an hour to Chicago and another train leaves Chicago for New York at 3 p.m. going 45 miles per hour, when will they pass each other on the tracks? All I know is that the westbound train is going to break down in South Bend and I'm going to have to take a taxi to Chicago but my luggage will probably still be in New York. Who gives a damn about the eastbound train? I have my own problems, dammit. Where's my luggage?
