What do you collect?

Whenever I went to an attraction, I always bought a coffee mug from the souvenir shop. Now, I have a large collection. I think we are all pack rats at heart. We want to amass a collection of something. What stirs the collecting gene doesn't necessarily mean big bucks, but what you like. What do you collect?

Before the covid I went to estate sales and found piles and piles of things people collected and, in their mind, were too valuable to throw away. Old books and magazines were one of them. When I downsized I vowed to be a minimalist.

Mine: A collection of John Deere miniature farm equipment. Star Wars collection (pictures and miniature things). Pictures of old western tv/movie stars and their horses. Some pictures of the Old West, such as Annie Oakley, Wild Bill Hickock, Buffalo Bill Cody and Indian Chiefs, like Red Cloud. Collection of miniature mountain wildlife.

Wife: Coca Cola collection of polar bears. Plates/cups. Angels. Disney stuff.

Inherited my mother's paperweight collection.
I went on to collect swan figurines, bell figurines, humming bird plates, deer plates.

Hubby has a collection of old tractors that need to find a new home.
He has a large collection of die cast coke vehicles,, promo collection of plastic corvettes.
I won't even mention all the tools/tool boxes he has.

No collections to speak of, but having raised 6 children in old-fashioned cloth diapers, I amassed a collection of diaper pins.

Not my doing so much as the doing of family. Each and every baby shower held for me, I was gifted with diaper pins from someone or another. Adding to the fact we have a large family, and nearly all put their kids through cloth diapers, so whenever a mom in the family would finish-up with diapers in their home, they'd pass their old pins down to me.

Kept in one of my notions boxes, I still reach for one of these every now and then when an emergency fix arises, and/or when sewing.

I used to collect frogs (not real ones, LOL) Stopped collecting years ago, but still have several. Did not realize how many until I was packing up to move. And I have a few Mickey Mouse figurines. Not a collection, really, but some I bought on visits to Disney World.

My collections were donated to the hospital bazaar quite some years back:
Dogs of all sizes and prices, from everywhere.
Miniature carousel horses on carousel.
Wizard of Oz figurines with shelf.
China thimbles.
Cranberry glass.
More that I can't think of at the moment.

Statues of birds including quite a few mini swarovski crystal birds .
My hubs bought most of the crystal ones for my birthdays, some of the crystal swans you got as a gift by joining the Swarovski club

I forgot, my wife has a collection of McDonald toys. The kind that come with Happy Meals. She had four large plastic storage bins of them, but we went thru all of them and gave two bins to a children's hospital a couple of years ago. She also has a collection of fans, but we don't have the room to display them in our apartment. They were displayed in the house we use to have, but that was then and now is now. One other collection she has...........a quarter collection of all of the States in the U.S..

I also have a picture collection of Classic Rock and Motown groups.

@ClassicRockr
I have also collected the state quarters. I want to put them in a book for my grandson. When they first came out, 1999 I think, I said "I want these for my grandchildren!" I must have been optimistic as my grandson wasn't born until 2018!

Maybe I have extra quarters for states your wife doesn't have..............

Do you have those nifty collector fold-out coin-folders that you can sink the quarters into, Pepper?

That's what I want to get, to show front and back. Maybe even one with a map of US, I've seen those. Not finished sorting yet. No where near finished actually!

Nothing much these days. I collected Santas for 25 years and had over a thousand of them ranging from almost life-sized down to one carved from a grain of rice. One day I said "that's it!" and took a shelf at an antique shop a couple of months before Christmas and sold them. What didn't sell got donated. Now I have about ten Santas, all small, for sentimental purposes.

I do have a few chickens up on the shelves in my kitchen but I resist buying any more.

Dust.... plus lots of other stuff; i.e. anything and everything for the kitchen, Santas, vintage Christmas ornaments, roosters and chickens (ceramic, metal, etc.), cookbooks, books (hubby collects these). I'm sure there are more items... just can't remember what else I have collected.

Oh, elastic waisted pants!!!
