Wish they would bring back

Miami VIce, a great show.
Crank style pencil sharpener, usually mounted to the wall with a trash can below it.
telephone booths, many a date was made in a telephone booth.
Wings in automobiles and trucks. I have some antique vehicles and they are a great addition.
Glass bottle, round top, coke machines. I just saw a few of these a person was collecting.
Manual Transmissions. I have several vehicles with the clutch and are expected to be phased out in the next few years, the saying goes they are millennial theft proof. I enjoy driving the manual.
Skating rinks, while you skated in a circle to a DJ playing horrible music, but a great time watching us skate and eventually falling.
Woolworth's lunch counter, stoped for lunch when we went to see Santa.
Sugar daddy suckers, caramel like taste.
cafes, with the little roller file which was a wall box for the juke box and you could select your songs from your table. I was a great hangout back then.
clean shows like Andy Griffith

sorry, working late tonight, my mind was in the past...
I like my electric pencil sharpener better.

I got an email this morning telling me that NcDonald's is bringing back the NcRib sandwich for a limited time only though, as per usual. I'm not such a fan of them, don't recall ever even tasting one but some people I've heard speak of them as if it was better than sex! Maybe some of you ,issed the email but now you know, if you're a fan, have at it. I'll stick with what I know. I doubt that they're better than my favorite! ;)
Oops! Too late to edit it now but it's supposed to be McDonalds vs NcDonalds and the McRib, not the NcRib but most of you probably already knew that. Besides though, if it really were named NcDonalds it would only follow that they would sell the NcRib sandwich. Sort of like in the Superman comics and the Bizarro World he sometimes came in contact with. You were just being kind and you didn't point out my error. I appreciate such generous displays of kindness! You all here, are the BEST!

Good Morning Aunt Marg,
Stopped at the house to warm up a bit, so happy to see your smiling face this AM.
Good morning to you, Needshave!

You just made my day with your lovely greeting!

Hope you're having an enjoyable day, and keep-on - keeping-on, in the department of staying safe and healthy. :)

I always pay cash for gas. I miss the days when I could fill my tank and go in and pay. Now I have to guess and often go back to get the change the tank wouldn't hold.

The system I don't like, is when you pay with debit, and they (the clerk) tells you, "you'll only be charged for what you put in", yet you've approved a $50 fill on your card.

I'm staunch about reviewing monthly statements to ensure they reflect the times I never filled to $50.

Oh wow, I didn't know they did this and I have never used a card at the pump either. That could be a little scary on the charges. I'm glad you are diligent.

Yes indeed they do, Remy.

A little food-for-thought for you. :)

I never plug my card into the pump machine either, I always go into the station to pay.

I like the old dial telephones; seems like I didn't make as many mistakes on phone numbers when I was dialing rather than pushing buttons. (I know: some specialty sites sell dial telephones but I wish the push button ones had never come out. Plus, you know what: we had those big old black dial telephones every place I worked back in the day and it seemed like those things lasted forever; these flimsy push-button ones seem to last about a year and a half if you're lucky.)
I bought an old dial phone at a yard sale last year. It was filthy but it worked fine. I took it apart piece by piece to clean and it was built like a tank and almost as heavy with lots of Western Electric labeled parts inside. I could not get the round part off where you stick your finger in and dial though. It must have needed a special in-house tool to do so. I finally got tired of messing with it so it saw the trash bin.

DH likes one in his workshop. After his last one gave out, I found one in a thrift shop. Still working fine.

I have a working dial phone. It’s so heavy. There was a time when this was one my regular phones, back when they were all corded. Every 5 minutes I’d be changing ears.

I so agree, espec. about the crank style pencil sharpeners! Different places I worked had the elect. ones; we tried buying an electr. one for home and none of them worked with a darn, they always broke, even the expensive electr. ones at work. In fact, I worked at a university that had to remove the crank style pencil sharpeners from the hallways since the students kept stealing 'em; I guess they didn't like the electr. ones either.

When my grandpa died several years ago, I got his old pencil sharpener--my brother told me it might be worth something--I put it right up on the wall and love it, it works so good, not a bit of plastic on it anywhere:

The Concorde. Taking a trip on the Concorde was on my bucket list and I never got to go. I had planned on doing it when I retired, but it stopped flying in 2003. At that time, the r/t fare was around $12,000.00. From Washington, D.C. to Paris in only 3 1/2 hours.

Has anyone here flown on it?

Jules and Officer.....Exactly, built to last and does. I keep looking for one just like your boston, but they are hard to find. I have a couple shops in different locations and would love to have one in each. They certainly do last!

i frequently had to give crank pencil sharpener "lessons" in school... even to adults. if sharpener is attached to a table (vertical), that part that catches the debris hangs BELOW... logically. if sharpener is attached to a wall (horizontally), the scrap catcher still hangs DOWN.

Did that yesterday. The clerk assured me me any overage AUTOMATICALLY returns to your debit card.

So the story goes, but do keep a close eye on it, Gaer.

I have reservations when it comes to things such as this. Seems the instant one let's their guard down, whoomp, you're getting ripped off.

I had to give lessons on how to use a manual--a manual, mind you, *not* electric but manual--stapler to an adult. She borrowed the stapler, asking if it was the kind that the top lifted so she could use it to staple stuff to bulletin boards. Yep, I told her and showed her how to do it. So she says thanks and goes off to staple her flyers on bulletin boards. She comes back a few minutes later and says she thinks the stapler's broken, it just wouldn't staple. "Uh oh, I say; I forgot to check & see if it had staples in it, is it empty?" She looks blank and says, "Uh, what?" So I open it up where the staples go and it was in fact out of staples. So I start to put more staples in and she says, "Oh, my gosh! Is that where the staples are stored? I never knew that's where they went!"
