Collin is coming over for the weekend!

I am so stoked! Collin’s mom text me to ask if she can leave Collin here on Saturday until she comes back to Sac on Monday! She said he misses me and asks about me (I wonder what that actually looks like). Naturally I text back “Sure, no problem, any time” but my head was screaming YESSS! She said she would have brought him to stay with me sooner but she was waiting to get permission from the CPS worker. She didn’t know my RF license is good state wide so he can stay here overnight no matter that we live in different counties.

I’m kind of nervous because it’s *possible* this visit could cause Collin additional trauma – like it’s possible he’ll think she’s finally bringing him home and so it will be really hard on him when she picks him up. So I have till Saturday to think of ways to help him understand it’s just a visit (open to suggestions…he’ll be 3 in June). And idk, maybe it won't be an issue after this much time but I need to be prepared for it.

If things go well his mom said I can have him on weekends from time to time. That would be so awesome!

It seems like she’s looking for a babysitter. And who the heck cares if she is, you’ll be seeing Collin. I’m so happy for both of you.
I suspect she has plans for the weekend, and yep, that's okay. If it's that she's having a boyfriend over and she's thinking what's good for Collin, I gotta hand it to her. That's a positive thing.

Just have a good time together.

If you are that worried about him, seek help from a child psychologist specializing in these sort of cases and perhaps get court ordered visitation rights.

But for now just enjoy each other. Happy for you!
Thanks for that, Rad. I called my CPS contact and she sent a message to her supervisor who will find out of Collin is getting any family counseling services. If so, she'll message that person. In the meantime she referred me to a counselor in this county who's supposed to get in touch by Friday and to some websites as well, and she'll email me some reading material. This would all be a lot simpler if they didn't have to communicate across counties. But I'm not too *too* worried. I am very concerned about how it's going to be for him when his mom picks him up on Monday but we'll just have to see what happens then. I'll help him through it the best I can if needs be.

While he's here, he probably talks a little better and I think I'll still be able to "read" him pretty well, so there's that.

That will be awesome for you and convenient for his mom so it works out well.

Being new here, I don’t know the whole background story between you and Collin, but what I DO know is that you sound terribly happy and excited, so therefore I am terribly happy and excited FOR YOU!!!! 😊💕😍. Have.GREAT weekend! (Well heck...he’s 3 years old...how could the weekend be otherwise? 😊)

Thank you, Kathleen. If you do want some background it's posted on the Family & Relationships forum. In short, he was my foster son. CPS brought him here when he was 3 1/2 weeks old and Family Court reunited him with his mom when he was 2 1/2 years old (30 months, actually). I was supposed to be able to begin adoption proceedings when he was 15 months old but the court put it on hold due to covid.

so what do you have planned to do with him @Murrmurr?
We'll go visit my youngest grandkids, for sure. They all adore each other. But mostly we'll stay home (county orders) and play :). I'm anxious to find out where his head is at, you know? What we do depends on that to some extent but I'm sure we can just have fun, listen to music, take walks outside, like we used to.

Aww that's so sweet. I'm happy for you! I hope Collin will be ok.

Beautiful, but sad for you, story. I hope his birth mother is worthy of such a precious little one. He’s lucky to have you in his life. And I hope he is still as happy and healthy as when he had to leave you. Now I’m even MORE happy and excited for you❤️
