Word of the Day: Marzipan

Marzipan is a confection consisting primarily of sugar or honey and almond meal (ground almonds), sometimes augmented with almond oil or extract. It is often made into sweets; common uses are chocolate-covered marzipan and small marzipan imitations of fruits and vegetables.

Marzipan is popular in Europe and Asia. I have never eaten marzipan. In Germany it is popular to give marzipan pigs for good luck.

My mother would often get me a box of marzipan candies for Christmas. They looked like miniature fruits.

Marzipan sounds delicious but I don't recall if I've ever had it. Sometimes at family get togethers there would be sweets put out for all but with no name tags on them, unfortunately--so I very well may have had some--just don't know
