Do You Have An Electric Knife?

Mine just bit the dust, tried using it to cut a piece of foam, was quite pleased too with how it was going till it conked out midway.

I got a lot of use out of it for thin slicing roasts for sandwiches. Never found it good though for carving.

I need to buy another but finding one with the double row of teeth will be difficult.

Never have owned an electric knife, but remember one of my grandmas had one when I was a young child, and I thought it was the neatest thing watching her slice a ham or roast with it.

I have a set of razor-sharp knives that I reserve their use for special things and times, and one of those things is slicing hams and roasts. Hubby is the master carver in the family, and he has no problem slicing ham and roast thin enough for sandwiches using a good old-fashioned manual knife.

The first one I had was a gift and you held it like a regular knife, when that broke I got one with an actual handle and found it to be extremely uncomfortable and clumsy so I'm back to the standard knife.
I noticed that some people are using it on foam and plastic. I read someplace where those types of materials dull the blades quickly especially cardboard. I didn't want to take the chance to find out.

For cutting foam and plastic you can now get a blade or attachement for a soldering gun which heats up and slices through foam like butter.

No longer. I remember having one in the 70s. My MIL was excited to use hers for cutting turnip/rutabaga, but it didn’t work.

I had electric scissors. May still have them, if I blow the dust off my sewing box.

We used to have one that only was used to slice turkey at Christmas. I never thought it was particularly good. A decent sharp knife is just as good, or better.
Pretty much the only use our electric knife gets. I bought a filet knife that can either go fishing with or use in the kitchen: BUBBA 9 Inch Fillet Knife. It's a beast, but a very capable knife, reminds me of the scene in Crocodile Dundee:

I never had one. I remember my mom having one when I was around 10. When she wasn't home, I cut everything I could find with it - except food. That's probably why she got rid of it.

Yes I’ve got one out in the shed I bought at the op shop for $1 just for cutting foam when I was doing a project .
When I see it again I’ll bin it cause I can’t myself using it again

Ron has one. It comes out a few times a year. He used it on Thanksgiving for the turkey, Christmas for the ham, and then New Years to slice all the leftover meat off that same ham so we could make Hoppin John.

It will definitely come out again for Easter and earlier if there’s a need.

We have one...use it for carving turkey and it also does a great job on homemade bread. We do not have a decent knife in the house so we rely on this. We’ve looked at knives, thinking to replace them one at a time, but wow, they are expensive and we don’t really know what constitutes a good knife from a bad. Hate to rely on price when I don’t know for sure

Here is a super great article on quality knives, Kathleen, one that I'm hoping will help you select something that's right for you.
