How much pizzerias charge for extra toppings

Do you think it's unreasonable how much pizza places charge for each topping they put on pizza? There no guarantee how much they put on, either. You pay $2.99 for "extra pepperoni" and may only get 6 or 7 pieces. There are three withing walking distanace of my house. Below are screen shots of their menus.

Where I go the toppings are each 3. 99 and you hardly get anything but the rest of the pizza is so good that's why I get it. I think they charge too much for toppings but that's how they make their living.

We order pizza so infrequently, that it is always sticker shock for me. I vow not to do that again, but my wife seems to like delivered pizza. Fortunately, she views it as a rare treat rather than something to have on a regular basis.

To me, it is a matter of financial priorities. I would rather make sure we have solid savings and no debt first, then money I can spend I prefer to spend on something that has lasting value rather than momentary pleasure. We are all different and I am sure that those who do indulge in delivered pizza on a regular basis, simply have that as a priority for them.

Where you live are your local pizzerias owned, run by Italians? That's extremely important to me!
 
"Blaze Pizza" Fast Flash Fired: You can "build your own" if that's what you order (don't forget to tell them in advance you're doing "build you own"...and all extra ingredients are FREE. As many as you want. They must have 50 fresh ingredients to choose from... clean, fresh, colorful, delicious. The woman in front of me had 2 pizzas and added so many ingredients that they were each about 3-4" high. I kid you not. She said she comes all the time.

You have 3 choices of the fresh made crust, regular, high-rise, or gluten-free/cauliflower. They are each 11" for $8 including all the ingredients you want. They are flash fired in the open oven about 2 minutes and come out crisp, hot, and perfectly done.

I ordered a thin crust, red sauce, mozzarella (shredded and whole), parmesan, feta, grilled chicken, mushrooms, fresh basil leaves, oregano, kalamata olives, roasted garlic, onions, a little pesto, spinach, and bell peppers. After it came out of the oven they added arugula on top and sprinkling of olive oil and parmesan. mmm

But now I've moved away šŸ™

Among myriad different jobs, I once managed 3 Pizza Huts, one in Northern Calif and 2 here in Sac. This was back when extra toppings cost 35 cents for small and medium pizzas, and 50 cents for the large. There's a certain amount of each topping cooks are supposed to put on your pizza, decided by "corporate". If you got only 6 or 7 extra slices of pepperoni on a large, you got shorted by about 10 slices and you definitely didn't get $3 worth. If it was a medium, then you got about the right number of slices...though, should have been 8.

While I have no doubt they don't do it like they used to, you didn't get your $3 worth, chain or independent regardless.
 
I wouldn't worry about the individual topping charges.

Look at the total cost of the pizza and decide if it represents a good value for you.

After a thread here about freezing pizza, I bought a whole large pizza from the local Wegman's for $16.00 dollars and froze the individual slices. For me, that was a good start on 8 dinners or lunches at $2.00/serving.

It's true that I could have bought a dozen eggs and had a great start on several meals for $0.10 - $0.20/serving but I like pizza. :giggle:
